how do I get seeds and farm animals?
i can't figure this out. I build a trading post and it is staffed. i put items for sale in it. looking through the autobuy menu, there are no seeds or farm animals. so how do I get them? my farm and pasture lies idle and my town survives by hunting and gathering.

It's not in the autobuy, you have to trade them. I'm guessing you didn't do the trade tutorial? It explains it there.

As Dani said. It should also be noted that not all traders sell or buy the same things. Some traders will not buy food or herbs for example. I believe which trader type you get each time is random too so it could take several years to get what you want.

Make sure that your trading post is on a large body of water were boats will come in.something not land locked .

Some advice i'd go for is just play the tutorials, it'l be about 10 minutes of you're time and you'll know everything you need to know!

I have not done the trade tutorial. Also verified Im not landlocked. Is it an issue of basically waiting several years for a trader to show? How do I entice the trader to come?

Sorry chairman, i totally misread you're post, its been a long night for me. I've not got to that point yet with the traders but i hope you get you're trader to show up soon though, best of luck!

It can take the traders forever!!!!!! to bring animals. My personal best is 57 years before any livestock was brought for trade

ok. that's bizarre. guess my people will be eating venison and onions for a while and wearing hide coats.

Make sure you have at least 1 person working it at all times. I believe this is a factor in determing how soon traders will show up.

My personal experience, I didn't set up a trade port until year 8, and I know either year 9 or by year 10 I got my first boat to arrive. At that time, you will have options to set up an order, but each trader has different stuff they can bring next time, so you will end up with a rotation of different goods available.

I think it was 3-5 years from time I ordered sheep to the time that specific trader showed up again with them, it fluxuates a bit.

Im at year 33, and still no seed from merchant. This sucks.

If you click 'orders' you can tell them what they should bring. Its a random selection again though and will probably cost more.

A trader will come every year.If you are able build more than 1 trading post, you will get a trader for each.

Why I usually build multiple trading docks. SO you can get 4-5 traders a year, better odds of getting somehting you need.

Merchants show up regardless of the post being manned or not.

On my 2nd town, I had a seeds merchant arrive. I traded some seeds and then placed a custom order for some more, 10 years passed and the guy had not shown his face again to bring me my custom order. Makes me wonder if the feature is bugged.

BTW on my current town, I opened a trading post very soon but didnt fill it with anything because of how long it takes for traders to arrive. And then almost instantly a trader with 2 SHEEPS arrived, and I couldn't buy a single one because I didnt had enough times to stock to make a fair trade. So op, always keep the post stocked. You dont need to have somebody working there all the time, you can just set the trader, stock the post, and then lay him off and hire him again when the boat arrives. They last long enough for the guy to arrive at work.

While the trader boat is there, he will stay as long as you have the trading window open. So next time that happens, just click the thumbtack button to lock the window open, assign a few more traders to work and add the items you want stocked to the inventory window. Once they stock it, trade for your items.
