Laborers won't actually finish building a structure either. They'll bring resources, clear it, but the builder has to build it.

builders build structures, laborers collect resources etc. you probably don't notice a significant difference because if builders have nothing to build, they 'default' to doing laborer tasks.

What's the advantage to a worker? What do they do that builders don't?

They auto-replace a worker that dies.

This is helpful for the teacher especially. Because if you have no teacher, the kids get kicked into the workforce uneducated. So you always want a backup so their time wasn't wasted.

Laborers do dogsbody tasks, they are the first to fulfil your custom Resource gathering commands, they also lay foundations for builders and provide materials.

They are also your ferrying system. If one of your storehouses is low on a material they will be the ones to ferry them between them. They also collect materials from your Foresters/Quarries/Mines and take them to the nearest stockpile.

Builders ONLY build, unless idle in which case they'll do ferrying work.
