Getting rid of infestations?

One of my Fruit Farms got an infestation issue, and i was wondering what could help to eliminate this problem? I doubt hospitals and wells do anything.

Don't use it for a year, and don't plant the same crop when you do use it.

Does the same apply to pastures? I've had a few and I couldn't figure out how to deal with it. The culling option is slow (does it even work?), so that doesn't seem to be the solution either.

Also, I thought if you separated them with another pasture of a different animal in between that the infestation wouldn't jump. But it had no problem jumping from one full sized pasture of cattle across a full size pasture of sheep into another full sized pasture of cattle. Anyone know if I got unlucky or what the story is here?
