How Do You Like To Layout Your Towns?
I always struggle with a good layout and end up failing in terms of design and effiiciency (in city building games in general). At least in my opinion.

How do you like to layout your towns and what have you found that works best?

Fractals are your friends. I try to use fractals for housing and roads to get to "work" areas that are also fractaled. A habit I picked up from Dwarf Fortressing days. Remember to throw down a few wells in the middle of each node and you're set. Terrain is not kind sometimes though. I try to keep food production in the middle so it can stay high, but I'm still having issues so far.

Market in the middle and 12 houses around it. Build everything around the market, and fields in the four corners if the terrain allows it.

One thing I hate is that you can't fit in a market when you start on easy.

I stopped, a long time ago, trying to make my town look pretty. Unfortunately. :(

Markets in the center of residential areas, fisheries on bends and such to get maximum production, foresters/herbalists/gatherers/hunters out in the woods, an herbalist next to the market for the people to use (not really to gather), and storage barns and stockpiles galore right next to everything that needs one. As for housing, pathing tool is my best friend.. I decide where houses go based on the pathing tool... if I find a worker going even a little bit of a distance, I build a house to fix it.
