Quarry/Mine Happiness Distance
Does anyone know how far away from a Quarry or Mine do you need to be to avoid a happiness penalty? THX

Depends on who you ask, in my games I've had people right next to the quarry/mine at full happiness.
There will always be someone unhappy in the game.

Some mods include a radius circle for mines, quarries and industrial businesses.

I am a newbie still playing vanilla. Any idea approx distance needed? THX

OK. I am prone to agree with claybot. I played the vanilla game for quite sometime before I ever knew industries "might" affect happiness. I do not remember having any problem with it so I would say it probably does not make that much of a difference.

It makes some difference. Overall, your village happiness rating may look fine/good, but if you click on the house near the mine, and click on the individuals living there, they will have slightly less happiness (and I think health also).

Having said that, I don't recall exactly how far you need to be to avoid this penalty.

My solution in vanilla is to surround the mines and quarries with stockpiles and happinessboosters like wells, cemeteries to counter the effect. Having a tavern, hospital won't hurt either. This way, no houses are too close to them but still in close enough distance to get to work. I never measured it exact, maybe 15 units apart? Good luck!

I do a lot of mining in Vanilla. large scale with quarrying as well.

I set up for a mining area where I can support a minimum of four mines, by building up the housing and food, I build in Churches and a small cemetery in the market area. Using the radius of the market as my housing guide, I will build plenty of wells too. All wells, cemeteriess and churches boost happiness. You will also need to be providing your citizens with every type of food available to you in Vanilla. Also a happiness albeit a small one, every bit counts though.

I run mines in pairs of two, one in iron one in coal. I also build a huge forestry industry for the firewood as a major trading item, buying tons of food annually with firewood, tools etc,

Doing this I can maintain high happiness in mining areas easily.

I forgot to mention, I also build a road separating with a 2x10 stockpile and another road in front of my mines, then I place housing as close as I can get, using this buffer, every time my stock pile ends, I build a road, then build the next 2x10 stockpile, road surrounding the stockpile. then housing. wells. etch. For churches, you want to place one in the mining area. I usually place near the housing, but closer to the Market, as thats just where I put it, the cemetery also gets a surrounding road, small so that can be both in and outside the Marketplace radius.

Wells, I place my houses in blocks of six, two wide, three long, surround with large road to accomodate a well, then another block of six two wide, three long. its just a comfy way I build my housing,

In 300+ hours of playing the vanilla game, I never once worried about mine or quarry location in terms of citizen happiness. It's just not noticeable.

Market range is just a circle on the map, doesn't mean much

I ignore the range completely most others will disagree with me. But from all my playing/testing you can use a lot less markets than others/guides will lead you to believe.

The residents have no problem walking from one end of the map to the other whats to stop them from walking further to the market.

Yeah ,I saw my citizen outside of market circle walk to get things from a market ,not nearby barn. That's why I build a lot of house outside market area.

As long as your people are fed, warm, clothed and have tools you can do whatever you want however you want.
