[Solved] My Game Doesn't Save

My game isn't saving my worlds. The DRM free version I got from humble bundle saves just fine, but the steam one doesnt? I press esc, save, then click save again. It says saving, but if I press load game, it isn't there. If I leave my game, I can't go back. Is there a way around this, or am I just stuck using the drm free game?

Is there a way to get mods to the drm free version?

Usually, if your game won't save it's because you have Windows 10 and the Save folder is designated read only. To fix it, you need to change it to read/write. The other most common problem is that your security software is preventing the saves.

Yes, I'm on Windows 10, and I can't seem to find my saves folder? Where is it? User/Documents/?

[C:\Users\*your user name here*\Documents\Banished\Save] is where mine are. I'm baffled as to why you wouldnt be able to save. Windows 10 here, and it was never set to read only. Ive had zero problems, blaming it on windows 10 seems like a bad way to go.

Oh, also try starting a new game on easy and fast forwarding for a year and see if there is an autosave. good luck

If you played the DRM-free version on the same computer before, try removing the entire Banished folder from your Documents folder, to have it re-created by the Steam version of the game.

You can als get saving issues if your Save folder is too full. Regular cleanup of towns you'll never play again is a good idea.

Well, i have ONE saved game, but the 3 i tried since wouldnt even autosave, strange since i started one an hour later, i just closed the game in between.

EDIT: And Bitdefender in the meantime decided to update and then block the game.....

Now when I think about it, I'm pretty sure I had to run a setup.exe with the DRM-free version.
Though I don't even have a banished documents folder. This is so weird.

I do have bitdefender, but last time I checked it doesn't block banished or I made it into an exception. It at least doesn't give me a notification when I run banished. Even with bitdefender, the DRM-free version still saves perfectly fine for some reason.

Ahh I found the problem! I added banished to the ransomware exclusions, but I didn't even know that it has a safe file system automatically protecting the library - meaning the documents folder. It wasn't allowed to make a save file lol. I added it to the application access and now it works like a charm.

im having this issue too. ive allowed permission to write. i cant even find a save folder anywhere in the steam banished folder at all.

its in documents, not the steam folder

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\

There should be a Banished Folder there


And at least Bitdefender blocks writes in Documents (according to some parameters and not for example word or so, i hope).
