You can als get saving issues if your Save folder is too full. Regular cleanup of towns you'll never play again is a good idea.
EDIT: And Bitdefender in the meantime decided to update and then block the game.....
Though I don't even have a banished documents folder. This is so weird.
I do have bitdefender, but last time I checked it doesn't block banished or I made it into an exception. It at least doesn't give me a notification when I run banished. Even with bitdefender, the DRM-free version still saves perfectly fine for some reason.

i didnt add it to ransomware exclusion, still works.
its in documents, not the steam folder
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\
There should be a Banished Folder there
And at least Bitdefender blocks writes in Documents (according to some parameters and not for example word or so, i hope).
