CC Mod
I have played Banished for a while and have all the achievements. I really like this game. So I decided to try a mod. I chose the CC mod. I love it but after a few times it started to take very long to load. I was use to it taking about 2 min. but it got worse. Finally, it just would freeze. I could not access Task Mgr., I could not turn it off with the on/off on the CPU. The only thing that worked was to literally unplug the computer.

Has anyone else had this problem? I searched the Discussions and people talked about it taking a very long time to load. But, no one talked about having to unplug their machine.

Also, I uninstalled CC including the save game files but it still shows up on the "mods" option on the menue. How do I get rid of all of it?

Any help is greatly appreciated because I really liked the CC mod when it would work.

Which CC mod are you using? If you subscribed to it on the Workshop, you need to unsubscribe then delete it from your Banished > WinData folder or it will keep reloading when you start up Banished. The newest one Journey 1.75 is now on the Workshop and was made for Banished 1.0.7; it may work better for you. Also, BlackLiquid (who makes CC) has been releasing smaller pieces of CC you may want to try. Some are available on the Workshop, others at BlackLiquidSoftware.com. These include CC Docks (my favorite part), CC Frontier (Fort + Native Items), CC Terrains, and CC Transport (roads and bridges).

Thank you ebrumby for taking a look at my problem. I was using CC 1.55. I followed your instructions and then got 1.75. It takes it a few min. to load but it does load.

You mentioned smaller pieces of CC. Do I need to have the big CC mod to use them or can I eliminate the 1.75 CC and still use the smaller mods? This is the first time I have ever used a mod for any game I have so I am unfamiliar with them.

Thanks again for your help. :)

They are designed to be used without CC.

Thanks again. If CC gives me problems I go with the smaller mods.

Note that in the old version of Colonial Charter that you were playing (New Frontier I think), you could collect Iron from the ground and use it as is. In Colonial Charter 1.6 (The Forge Awakens) and the version you're now using, the stuff on the ground is Iron ORE and it needs to be smelted to become Iron. Theres a small Iron Ore Smelter that works well but it needs Furnace Fuel - there's a small Furnace Fuel producer too. (There are also larger versions too.) You can still make cheap tools with logs + iron ore until you get the smelters up and running. If you hate this, there's a small mod at BlackLiquidSoftware.com called Iron is Iron that makes it the same as you are used to. That mod goes above CC 1.75.

Ahhhhh, that explains it. Took me awhile to realize the "iron" on the ground was no longer iron but iron ore. I was just playing along wondering what to do and hoping something would become obvious (there's so many buildings and trades to work through). You saved me a lot of aggravation and I just may check out that "Iron is Iron" mod.

So far the Mod is working fairly well. It's only frozen once where I had to unplug my machine to get going again. Good thing this is a fun game or I would have just quit by now. Thanks again!

I've been play testing the small CC mods and when I went back to CC 1.75, it kept crashing. I deleted some mods, deleted some saves and it was still crashing. I cleaned my Registry. I switched from my subscription on the Workshop to the file from BlackLiquid. Still kicking me out of the game. So I turned off my machine so it could think about what it's doing wrong. That worked. Everything is fine now.

I didn't have any small mods to delete but I did delete my saves. I never thought to clean up my Registry so I'll give that a try. So far, turning my machine off has not helped. It still eventually crashes. I have a bad habit ot starting to play and then pretty much letting the game run most of the day. I do some stuff and then go back to the game. I usually save it so I don't have to start all over. Perhaps I need to shut the game down when I leave it for awhile. It never bothered the vanilla version but maybe it messes up CC.

Even in the vanilla version, you need to close and restart the game after a few hours, to clean up all old calculations from its memory. You might not see it much, but the performance hit is there :)

Thank you for that information. I was sort of trying to avoid exiting and then restarting because it takes between 2-5 min to load. Maybe this will help with load time also:) I hope so. I will try it today.

So I thank you for your advice Vrayna!

Some people find that DX 11 doesn't work at all for them, but for me it makes the game load in 30 seconds vs 3.5 minutes.

I've never had a problem with DX 11 with other games so I'll give it a try. I checked and it seems the default for Banished is DX 9. I did exit the game several times today when I had other things to do.....so far.....so good! But then....I have also gotten some good advice from you! Thanks!

I changed to DX 11 and it worked! It now loads in 30 seconds or less. ebrumby, you have made me a happy gamer! Thank you! Who knows, I may get really crazy and try the Medieval Town Mod! But for now I'm experimenting with all the new stuff in CC. :)
