Steam crashes game
"Here is an issue I didn't expect. Virtually 400 years into this game and now it decides to crash. Sorry, I love this game but this sucks and after reading a bunch of posts on the subject I am absolutely none the wiser on how to fix this so I don't lose this game.
It started when I launched the game today and it told me I had to install Banished, as if the game had been removed by spooks or something.
I went into steam to see if the same occurred, and low and behold the game needed to be reinstalled.
Since then the game lunches but not five minutes in it just plain crashes every time.
Is there a fix for this or am I basically going to lose the biggest game I have going to date and need to re-install the game.
I noticed there is a Beta version. Should I be playing this or do I need a Beta key for that.
It's all very confusing to me right now as I'm not a computer fundie at all.

Please help and thanks in advance."

This is pretty common and it has to do with mods. I found this fix years ago. Can't remember who posted it but it works. Just follow the steps and things will be fine and the mods that cause the problems will be gone. That said....please be aware that you may not be able to continue your game.

A fatal access error has occured in
Application-steam-x64.exe and the game cannont continue

Application-steam-x64.exe -- HOW TO FIX IT!!!

Crash on Startup

"A fatal access violation has occurred in Runtime-steam-x64.dll and the game cannot continue!

A crash dump has been saved to [none-ya-business]."

Ever seen that before? Just kidding, apparently it's pretty common. I have "no sh*t" fixed it. Here's how:

Step 1: Navigate to the folder that holds all of your mods, patches, and files with the name "data" in it. C:> Program Files(x86) > Steam > SteamApps > Common > Banished Find the Windata folder.

Step 2: Delete every single thing in that folder.

Step 3: Open Steam -> Right+Click on Banished -> Local Files tab -> Click on "Verify Integrity of Game Files"

Step 4: Wait for Steam to download the (atm) missing files

Step 5: Enjoy playing banished

"But all muh modz!" - will totally be automatically downloaded when you start Banished IF you subscribed to them through the game itself, not manually installed.

ANY BROKEN MODS will, conveniently enough, not be re-downloaded. So no more conflicts. So if you have a mod that doesn't come back, that's what your problem was.

"But what about the registry edit, and the Directx thingy, and the -" STOP... Name one person who has this issue who has never played Banished (as in, fresh into the game).

Just wipe the folder.

Sorry mate, it doesn't work at all no matter what I do. I effectively am reduced to using subscribed Mods only as the game crashes the moment I reinstall Mods like Mega 9 from the recycle bin, which in itself consists of dozens of Mods. My point is, how is it possible I get prompted to reinstall the game yesterday as if by some fluke it just got uninstalled. After reinstalling it here on steam CRASH BOOM BANG go fly a kite. Nothing works. Clear Mods from the MOD folder as suggested and verify game. Subscribed Mods are auto reinstalled so I only have to reinstall Mega 9 from the recycle bin.............. NOTHIIIIIIIIIIIING Kaput, broken, gone to meet it's maker, pushing up the daisies, dead as in dead, Nil, zilch, nothing, zero, nada, niks.................................. Now what???????????
