Charcoal/industrial coal???
In Megamod, there's a charcoal burner, that creates 'industrial coal.' Tom Sawyer, who made North 7, has an independent charcoal pit mod that does the same thing (seems to use the same graphic). However, the blacksmiths I've built so far with Megamod won't use either charcoal or 'industrial coal' to do anything, like make steel tools. Does anyone know of a particular blacksmith unit that will use charcoal/industrial coal? Preferably in megamod, but anything in the workshop would be fine.

Sometimes, you will find a situation like this. The same thing happens with glass unless they fixed that. In that case. get rid of those buildings. Build a Stacks Burner, and make your charcoal or coke fuel from there. It uses logs only I think to build Charcoal. And there are several blacksmiths that will use the charcoal to make tools, instead of with coal. Also, the charcoal in Megamod, is the best and most efficient way to manage your houses fuel needs. Using less wood, than the fire bundlers, or firewood choppers to make fuel .

I also think you can use charcoal to make furnace fuel as well. And if not, then having a small firewood industry usually can take care of one building to make furnace fuel.

As for buildings that will use the present industrial coal/charcoal. I would look to more of the North's mod buildings, they would recognize the items best. Tom Sawyer is the maker of the North Mod. And if his buildings have been included in your Megamod pak, then you should find North Mods, in the "Themed" industry icon bar, right beside the "utility" or "remove trees" icon.

Tom Sawyer's buildings aren't in the Megamod pak, unfortunately. If they were, I suspect it would all work smoothly. Do you know of a specific blacksmith that will use charcoal to make tools? I have tried three so far to no avail. There are so many in Megamod....

Sorry, not off the top of my head. no. I would just not use those North Mods. Or add in more of the production chain from the north to your game. But, really, I wouldn't use them. I think, maybe, possibly, The Village Blacksmith will make Vanilla tools with charcoal. But thats best guess right now. sorry.

The North and MegaMod are not compatible. They use different flag / limits / category systems, so items produced in The North will not be accepted in MegaMod buildings because they have the wrong flag, and the other way around.

I think the Crest Family Blacksmith uses charcoal.

The Charcoal from MM and the charcoal from The North aren't the same thing. They might have the same name shown to you, but their files are different and they don't have the same flags.

Thanks, that's very good to know.

Also, Furnace Fuel or Industrial Coal in MM is mostly (only?) used for smelting metals.
Personally, I prefer creating charcoal (from MM) over creating firewood.
5 Logs give you 55 charcoal (each of which sells for a price of 3), but only 20 Firewood (each of which sells for 4). So, either way, charcoal production is more than twice as effective (both for heating homes and for trading fodder) as firewood. ;)

I agree with you on the charcoal. The stacks burner pumps it out easily. you can use it to make steel tools right away, and even though it trades at a lesser value than the firewood, I think I read somewhere that charcoal is six times better as a fuel than any other type of fuel you can make in mm. some people prefer to go with the reeds and fire bundles, but that is much too labour intensive to my way of thinking. You need a lot of reeds to keep up with a thousand population, and just two stacks burners and four people to make your charcoal keeps up enough fuel for a thousand population. It doesn't even crash your wood supplies, because one thing you are never short on in MM is wood lol. Stones yes, Iron sometimes. But renewable resources in MM9 seems to have been slowed down a bit. I have two hundred pop, and usually wouldn't be looking for more stone till around 1000 pop, but, I am looking for stone now. lol.

I am so happy to have my game back. Not being able to play banished for a year or more, it is fabulous now it plays just fine on my new comp.

I have to say, I'm also a big fan of fire bundles. Because you can grow the needed reeds on water - where you usually cannot build much useful stuff. And the dock workshop that converts the reeds to fire bundles can also be built on water. Those things plus rice planters (or whatever they were called) make big lakes absolutely awesome to have!

Those rice planters are pretty OP, frankly. Which is why I love them. My current town grows a few foods, but basically trades rice for other food, especially meat; cloth, stone, joists, and whatever I really don't want to build a production line for. I'm using Megamod plus a 1 year = 1 year mod, which makes growth in the early years really tough. Rice really made things take off. I believe you only get rice in Mild or Very Mild climates, though- which is appropriate.
My big problem is that the bannies are breeding a lot more boys than girls. Lots of single males roaming around loose- I've gone from students/children outnumbering adults two to one, down to parity. I think when the die-off of the first generation kicks in, there might be a labor shortage...

Same. :D Those and... some other buildings. Like the hothouse for pineapples or... what was the other option? Mango? Just don't use them for eggplants... ;) And, yes, I did make a list sometime ago.
