What's your food limit? Just asking...
Also, if the button cannot be clicked, the harvest is already underway.

15k in total, the barn nearby those bugged farmer is completely empty.. i can't screenshot because my pop starved to death, currently raising to 1000 again.

i think it's because of high population, my laptop spec is not so good so that cause game lags and i read somewhere, when you play in x10 speed, there is a chance for the game to "cant complete calculation" so it becomes error like farmer not harvesting, laborer idling when there are things to do..

anwyay, whats the best size for farm? i read from website, it says 15x15 is the most efficient, same for orchard and 20x20 for pasture

but in steam discussion, some says 120 - 125 squares is the best farm size

15K in total will only support 150 people total.
100 food per person.
x10 only works up to about 3-500 people then you need to switch to x5 and so on.
Currently I'm at 3400 running at x1 and its slow

Sound more like your farmers are not farming because there starving and too busy looking for food rather than farming.
11 x 11 or 120 squares +/-. I generally use 10x12 one worker per farm.

If you have a townhall it will tell you how much food your producing compared to how much your using.

For farm and orchard size, it's not really matter as long as it is not too small. What matter is the number of farmer for the size you use. For crop: one farmer can handle up to 121 (11x11). If you play in harsh weather, I would suggest to max out at 100-112 per farmer. Orchard is unreliable, I can't tell much. I use one farmer for up to 135 tiles (15x9). Crop farm is best build skinny and tall (I use 7x15 the most). Orchard is best wide and short (15x7). Check your map orientation.

Pasture: max size is most efficient because you would still need only one herdsman.

how to feed those 3400 people, i don't have any more land to put farm.. and im just around 1200.. anyway, do you have save file for tenure achievement?

and with 15x9 tiles and 1 farmer, whats the highest yield you can get?
i want to compare with mine, 15x15, 4 farmers, highest 1300.

but sometimes can yield only 500, house and barn is nearby
pdoan8 Feb 9, 2021 @ 10:24pm
Orchard yield depending on the number of grown trees (and weather). If I remember correctly, 65 per 4 trees if worker is educated. You will only get full yield in the first few years then it will fluctuate as tree die and replanted.

I don't use orchard as main food production. Only build enough to partially supply the taverns. In average, my orchard will produce 300-400 a year (mostly 15x7).

Highest yield should be 15x9x7, so 945.

And, yes, 15k food for 1.3k people is way, way too low. Like just over 10% of what they need per year. That's how the death spiral starts - people not working because they're waiting for food to magically appear.

just don't build houses, and the population will eventually level off. Only the "main" couple in a house will have kids, preventing new adults from having any.

also here is a link to calculate crop size:yield ratios

My 11X11 farms plots with 1 worker yield 868 food usually but I do have houses and barns right next to the plots for less travel time. Thats cabbage and pepper, currently waiting on the seed merchant to plant other crops.
If your houses and storage are set up decently you can easily reduce yours to 2 workers and get a full yield if your workers are educated.

A house with a family will have up to 5 people. They will all stay in that house unless you have an open house somewhere. So simply dont build houses and your population will hit max for the amount of houses you have. The downside to that is you will eventually have a population decline when the parents start to die off and since you stopped people from moving into new houses and having children you will have a generation gap. Generation gaps can be handled with nomads, but bringing in nomads can bring in other problems to deal with.
You also dont want a boarding house unless you bring in nomads IMO.

uhm, Ya, no way to actually manage that one. Aside, from letting the population cycle up, and then having prepared for the eventual death waves, by making sure you are well stocked on your supply chains. In some modded games, using the small houses, for three and for four people, seems to make some difference, but unless you are constantly building up more houses, you will eventually get the rise and fall of populations.

When I did Tenure, I just set my trading posts to auto purchase, ordered in what i wanted, and every thirty years or so, I would bring in Nomads to boost the population up again, as I had loads and loads of singles in my housing. Nomads, perked it back up just enough for the next thirty year cycle.
