Application-steam-x64.exe -- HOW TO FIX IT!!!
Crash on Startup
"A fatal access violation has occurred in Runtime-steam-x64.dll and the game cannot continue!
A crash dump has been saved to [none-ya-business]."
Ever seen that before? Just kidding, apparently it's pretty common. I have "no sh*t" fixed it. Here's how:
Step 1: Navigate to the folder that holds all of your mods, patches, and files with the name "data" in it. C:> Program Files(x86) > Steam > SteamApps > Common > Banished Find the Windata folder.
Step 2: Delete every single thing in that folder.
Step 3: Open Steam -> Right+Click on Banished -> Local Files tab -> Click on "Verify Integrity of Game Files"
Step 4: Wait for Steam to download the (atm) missing files
Step 5: Enjoy playing banished
"But all muh modz!" - will totally be automatically downloaded when you start Banished IF you subscribed to them through the game itself, not manually installed.
ANY BROKEN MODS will, conveniently enough, not be re-downloaded. So no more conflicts. So if you have a mod that doesn't come back, that's what your problem was.
"But what about the registry edit, and the Directx thingy, and the -" STOP... Name one person who has this issue who has never played Banished (as in, fresh into the game).
Just wipe the folder.
It's been a long time since I played and recently returned to playing Banished a bit. I remember experiencing this issue from years ago when I first played Banished.
Note: On Win7Pro, Banished will not actually "hang" but will just continue running in the background, but can't be accessed because whatever info it's waiting for doesn't ever get to it, it seems. In Win10, that behavior could be different.
Basically open Banished, open the mod menu, enable the mods you want (or make a fake change by disabling-enabling a mod), then close the mod menu. The game asks you to confirm, and does an automatic reload. Once that reload is done, entirely close Banished and restart, before you create your new town. That exit-restart forces the game to correctly save the changes to the modlist and will prevent the crashes that otherwise would happen when you try to exit a town to get back to the main menu.
It might feel like a small waste of time to do that exit-restart each time you make any change to your modlist, but it's a small price to pay to avoid the crahes, which are a pain when you're looking at all the map options to pick the right one before starting a town :)
