but what do I do with them? I built a greenhouse and my two seedlings have rapidly increased in number, which is gratfying, but I can't plant 'em - so is the only option to trade them?

If you are using MM8, the only thing you can do with them is trade them. Red Ketchup's Greenhouse used to only produce those and were rather overpowered (like that's a negative!). Since then it evolved into the Fodder>Fertilizer>Food chain in his Garden Walls mod. In MM7 (and maybe MM6), they were needed for Decorative Trees & Bushes.

I am in MM8 so I will trade them - can I use the greenhouse for anything else besides seedlings? I seem to recall growing sunflowers or summat from it last time I had it in a world. I also have Garden Walls and get perfume out of that. Don't know nuffink about fodder chain - but then Banished is a voyage of discovery, so all will become clear in time :)

There are two different types of Greenhouses. The one Black Liquid grows various types of fruit. The one from Red Ketchup is part of his Garden Walls. In that mod, here's a Fodder Farmer who grows Fodder just like Foresters grow trees. That goes to a Stable (not the one that produces Domesticated Animals) and that produces Fertilizer. The Fertilizer and Water (from wells that are staffed) are used by the Greenhouses to produce your choice of several fruits/veggies or seedlings.

ps have just spent an exhausting hour weeding, strimming and tidyingin our real-life garden and am decidedly off doing ANYTHING else even remotely horticultural until me back straightens and me blisters heal, so Banished is just going to have to wait a bit... :)
