Solution for "Save" blocked on Windows 10 by "Controlled folder access"

Windows Security's "Controlled folder access" is blocking "Save" on Windows 10.

Solution: Allowing Banished through "Controlled folder access".

Go to Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Virus & threat protection settings: Manage settings → Controlled folder access: Manage Controlled folder access → Allow an app through Controlled folder access → Add an allowed app → Recently blocked apps. Banished's executable should be listed here if you ran it before.

I'm experiencing this problem with Windows 10, but I can't find the settings you are referencing. I have Windows Defender Firewall. When I go there and then 'Allow apps to communicate through Windows Defender Firewall', Banished is allowed. It has the same settings as all my other games that save properly. Am I missing something?

Head to Virus & threat protection not Firewall & network protection. This isn't about the network firewall but filesystem access controll.

One can access Windows Security either via Start menu → App list → Windows Security or via Windows Settings → Update & Security → Windows Security or via [Win]+[R] → "windowsdefender:".

Thanks for your answer Krush. I'm really puzzled as I've followed your instructions and it still won't save. Too bad as it's such a nice relaxing game! I'm on a Windows 10 version 1803 though.

I'd guess you're still having confused Controlled folder access or allowed the wrong app through. Mine is called "Application-steam-x64.exe" located in "[...]\steamapps\common\Banished".

Or you're having an installed third-party anti-malware software interfere.
