Game Now Abandoned!
Been away for a while, just wondering if this game is now dumped by the devs. Thanks for any info.

There's one person who developed the game - Luke Hodorowicz. When he released the game he said it was finished and, except for fixing "bugs" and adding a modkit, he was finished. The modding community is very active and have developed 100s of great mods - some are very large and add significant changes, including housing, production chains, additional crops/livestock, different terrains/climates/starting conditions, etc. The largest include Colonial Charter 1.76, Red Ketchup's Editor's Choice and Tom Sawyer's The North. There is also MegaMod which bundles over 200 mods together from a number of modders (current version is 8.01). You should visit BlackLiquidSoftware.com and WorldofBanished.com. Also visit Luke's website to view his posts regarding the new game he is working on: ShiningRockSoftware.com.

You're welcome.

Yeah I got to say I "abandoned" this game once I figured each thing out cause it's pretty boring once you have tried everything out lol
But the mods have made it playable again for me, How exciting!

Small note about mods: pay attention to publishing date. The last Banished patch added new flags/categories, and mods older than mid 2017 might have issues with those.

thanks Vrayana, I'll keep that in mind :-)

How can I get RK mod? I tried going to the link and there was much discussion about mods but not a way to download. Should RK appear when I search for mods through the game interface? I don't see it. I also don't "hundreds" of mods. How can I find, download and install more mods? I'm enjoying the CC one currently.

RK Editor's choice can be downloaded here on steam provided you bought the game here (unlike me). Otherwise it can be downloaded from Worldofbanished (link above) but you need to register to actually see the downloads (same for Colonial Charter on Blackliquid).
Registrations are easy and you can use a disposable e-mail if you don't want to use a real one, just make sure it's working long enough to receive the confirmation (i think you don't even need to actually validate your mail on WoB, but you do on BL).

You can also search on nexusmod, they have a banished section but i'm not sure RK or CC are available there.

I don't think there are actual mods on Shiningrock, but you can find the toolkit to build your own mods there.

Another mod worth mentioning is The North (http://www.banishedventures.com/north/).

I would avoid using any of those 3 large mods together. I've read The North and CC don't play together at all while RK Editor's Choice might work with both other but they all add a lot of content and at best you'll find lots of duplicate buildings doing approximately the same thing and at worst some won't work correctly.

CC is some sort of "New World" mod. RKEC stays closest to vanilla banished while adding more stuff and The North obviously puts you in the cold north.

There's a lot of smaller mods on WoB. They should mostly work with the large ones but don't take it for granted. Mods that change map generation won't play nice with those as they already alter that and multiple changes are overwriting each other.

Each of the major mods: The North, Colonial Charter, Red Ketchup's, modify vanilla game play in sgnificant ways. Each is kinda like a 'new' game. Mega Mod combines several of these mods, changing play even more. Having played Banished for over a year - vanilla would be boring. I've 'mastered' CC. Curently struggling with RedKetchup, (love the canals). NExt will be the North. Don't have the paitence to wait for mega mod load - though gameplays I've seen on youtube are pretty awesome. All in all, each of these major mods changes gameplay enough to require different strategies, etc.

Why would you use Canals? I would think they would just take up more space when the streams and rivers are there already, just fish on them. Is it purely cosmetic?
Is RK the New Medieveal Town? Cause there is nothing else named Red Ketchup
Do the smokehouses etc offer an advantage over venison for example? If yes maybe it improves happiness or health, but otherwise that just means it's cosmetic, right?
