How to install and use MegaMod 8?

I downloaded the mega mod 8 composed of three files:
--MegaMod1.pkm
--MegaMod3.pkm
--MegaMod3.pkm

I tried to use but I installed the three files, but it returns error.

You need to use the most recent version: MegaMod 8.01 available from BlackLiquidSoftware.com. After you download the .rar file, extract it using 7-zip or another extraction program that will handle .rar files (7-zip is free on-line) into the 3 .pkm files. Move those 3 extracted files to your Banished>WinData Folder; note that those files can't be in a subfolder. Load the game and check all 3 files (they will turn red which just means they affect the same parts of the game code). Then exit the game completely. This helps prevent crashes. Go back in, make sure the 3 files are checked and start a new game. Note that you should not be using any of the mods included in MM8.01 separately such as Colonial Charter.

It's not working for me either. Haven't played the game for awhile but saw the megamod and wanted to try it, I do have other mods in there but they are not enabled. Works fine without the mod but when I unzip it (using 9 zip) and place it in the folder, when the game loads its just black screen and can't do anything

Megamod is HUGE. Many times bigger than the vanilla game. Depending on the computer, the loading time can vary from "a bit long" to "feeling like an eternity".

On my laptop it used to take about 12 minutes before I boosted my RAM to 8GB. I think now it takes about 4 minutes of black screen "only".
Basically, give it a lot of time to load, go make a cup of tea while it's working, alt-tab to listen to a couple of songs, etc etc. Unless it crashes to desktop with an error message, it's most likely working in the background trying to load all the shiny stuff.


Once loaded and on the mod menu, don't worry if all 3 parts look very red. That warning is just there to tell you that the 3 "mods" touch and modify the same files, which is normal since it's meant to be that way. It's just a warning to tell you that as the mod on top will pverwrite what's under it in their common files, you need to pay attention to the load order. As long as the 3 parts are in order, you should be fine.

A general thing when adding mods or changing load order, or making ANY change to your modlist: don't trust the game to handle those changes correctly.
When you exit the mod menu, the game asks you to confirm and does an automatic reload. Once that's done, you need to entirely exit Banished and restart before you try to create a town.

If you skip that manual entirely exit and restart step, you'll have very high risk of crashing whenever you try to quit your town.
The extra restart is pretty annoying because of the long loading time, but doing it once is infinitely better than dealing with constant crashing when you're trying to pick your starting conditions and map.

Yeah, for most players you have to alt-tab Banished on the black screen, wait 10-30 seconds, and alt-tab back. I've had to do that since the very earliest versions of Vanilla.

for some reason mine doesn't show up IN the mods menu. i've got the three pkm files in the windata folder, but when i open up banished, they just aren't in the mod menu
