What are crates for in Colonial Charter New Frontier?

Made some crates in the joiner but I don't know what they are for? On a similar note, there seem to be so many things in this mod that don't seem to be able to used to build anything. What do you do with those things? Perhaps I'm mistaken, but if there is a chart that tells you what you can make with everything (like Minecraft does), please link it to me! Thanks!

The Joiner only makes Furniture. The Cooper makes Crates, Casks and Barrels. Barrels are used at the Saltinghouse and Smokehouse. The Native Trader uses a few Crates. One Log is used to make 2 Crates so there's a little profit if you use them for trade. There are spreadsheets at blackliquidsoftware.com that might help.
