Thanks for reminding me of the site, that's how I followed the early development of the game and he was good at communicating with everyone there.
Yeah, that's the thing is the author states on his page he tried to capture the feeling of older style "shareware" games. I grew up on shareware games that came in the mail on CD (because I couldn't get dial up in my area yet) and imo were the precursor to the 'early access' style of dev. You would mail money to the dev to support the game and he'd send a code back to unlock the full game or floppies/CD to install the full game. Those are something that if you didn't do much pc gaming in the 80's and early 90's you may not be very familiar with, but it's a different look and feel (budget and time constraints of course) and he did a good job at it.
So, with that concept in mind, a Banished 2 would be pretty far from what the dev originally dreamed up, or what he even wants. But, in my opinion, Banished has become a pretty popular game and has a good fan base. If he were to come up with some kind of sequel, I just think it would do well.
