I think the teams should keep their grenades as they were a big part of combat during the war, that being said i agree that some sorts of mechanics need to be added to make melee combat more effective and more prevelant
Reason there's no shotguns is only the US issued them and their not currently in the game. If they get added then I'd expect a trench gun.
Tier I: Browning 1911
Tier II: Model 1887
Tier III: Model 1897
Tier IV: Browning Auto-5
It would essentially allow for each tier to up the shotgunner's efficiency and trench clearing ability. the Model 1887 was towards the beginning of US involvement and was notorious for some unreliability in operation, so it could be simulated by having the operator have to sometimes clear the shell from the ejector after he uses the lever action. the Model 1897 was a major improvement and could allow the operator to fire more effectively and efficiently. the devs could even add the ability of holding down the fire button to slam-fire every round of the 1897 at the expense of accuracy. the Auto-5 would have much better manouverability and control than the '87 or even '97 at the expense of having less fire-rate than slam-firing the '97. the devs could even change the gauge of each shotgun to accurately reflect the real life counterpart during it's life in WW1's engagement.
tl;dr could be something the devs play around with that i fully support
Honestly the americans bring so much new weaponary its gunna be hard to cover all of it
-Trench Gun
-M1917
-Springfeild 1903
-BAR
-Colt 1911
if i knew the format in which they were going to put the pioneer/american squads in, id be able to predict how the tiers would be set up for each class
Historically the Winchester M1897 is also the only one of these that actually saw frontline service in WW1.
My thinking was that surely the americans sold weaponry to their allies in some degree. I know that they got to use british and french weaponry once they joined the war, and before that the americans supported them with supplies and such, so... Canada are good friends with the US, and the canadians' role in this game is that of an assault squad, and the trench gun is a weapon fit for that role.
Anyways, if they are planning to add americans, the Winchester M1897 is very likely to be added.

US infact used alot of Entente equipment; 3/4 of the US infantry in France used the Enfield M1917 and their LMG was the Chauchat (US Marines were deployed with the LEwis gun but had it replaced upon arrival aparently)
It's been mentioned as a possible squad. If, when or how their implemented we don't know yet.
I do hope they bring the trench knife tho :P
