Verdun
The Winchester M1897
The Trench Gun. I know it's an American weapon, but why don't we have any shotguns in this game? Did devs and/or players decide against it, thinking it's too overpowered? (Rifles alreay one-hit kills ya, and then we get a shotgun which has spread so you barely need to aim as well...) I think the Canadian trench assault guys could get one as the last class level up or something, currently this game is all about throwing grenades. To make the weapon not too overpowered, it could be so that to kill a man, more than half of the pellets need to hit him. Say the gun fires 10 pellets, then 6 needs to enter his body for an instakill. In close quarters, that will most likely be the case, but from medium to long rang, it won't. Also, in the trenches you won't get three kills in one shot if you'd hit all three with your spread. You'd injure/flich the two others though, if they get a few pellets at them. But fear not, it's pump action, you can fire at them soon again.

Maybe? No? Please?

Also, side note: make the trench assaults less dependant on grenades. It seems like everyone is spamming nades, the sound of bouncing nades and explosions are everywhere. Sure, it's WW1, they bombed eachother's trenches to ♥♥♥♥. But... I wish I saw more people in close quarter melee, rather than lobbing five nades over the edge of a trench and get a m-m-m-multikill! Maybe it's just me, but getting blown up in a trench seven times in a row is frustrating.

Cheers,
Savage

Well i agree and disagree to both. Id like to see the trench gun, but not added to french or anything, itll be added to an american squad which is a higher up priority for the dev teams anyway.

I think the teams should keep their grenades as they were a big part of combat during the war, that being said i agree that some sorts of mechanics need to be added to make melee combat more effective and more prevelant

I think the recent unlock change has caused more use of the assault squads which get a lot of grenades.

Reason there's no shotguns is only the US issued them and their not currently in the game. If they get added then I'd expect a trench gun.

one thing i think would be interesting with an american assault squad or whatnot is seeing the dedicated shotgun user have to earn higher shotguns in different tiers, for example:

Tier I: Browning 1911
Tier II: Model 1887
Tier III: Model 1897
Tier IV: Browning Auto-5

It would essentially allow for each tier to up the shotgunner's efficiency and trench clearing ability. the Model 1887 was towards the beginning of US involvement and was notorious for some unreliability in operation, so it could be simulated by having the operator have to sometimes clear the shell from the ejector after he uses the lever action. the Model 1897 was a major improvement and could allow the operator to fire more effectively and efficiently. the devs could even add the ability of holding down the fire button to slam-fire every round of the 1897 at the expense of accuracy. the Auto-5 would have much better manouverability and control than the '87 or even '97 at the expense of having less fire-rate than slam-firing the '97. the devs could even change the gauge of each shotgun to accurately reflect the real life counterpart during it's life in WW1's engagement.

tl;dr could be something the devs play around with that i fully support

well i think they were all 12 guage so that wouldnt change for damage, now idk how much the m87 or the auto 5 were used.

Honestly the americans bring so much new weaponary its gunna be hard to cover all of it

-Trench Gun
-M1917
-Springfeild 1903
-BAR
-Colt 1911

if i knew the format in which they were going to put the pioneer/american squads in, id be able to predict how the tiers would be set up for each class
get rid of all teh captured weapons while you're at it since grinding role levels are fairly easy as of now :/

While it sounds like a good idea, practically it is not realistic. The dev team doesn't have the time resource to invest in making four different shotgun models.

Historically the Winchester M1897 is also the only one of these that actually saw frontline service in WW1.

Ah, so the dev team is planning on adding americans in some way? Didn't know that, as I just bought the game and saw that the Entente includes frenchies, brits and canadians and the Central Powers only consist of the germans on the western front. I didn't expect the Entente to get even more nationalities. But hey, while they're at it, adding americans - I would love scottish skins for the brits! Heh. Ever since I saw "Joyeux Noël", I wanted to fight in a trench wearing a kilt.

My thinking was that surely the americans sold weaponry to their allies in some degree. I know that they got to use british and french weaponry once they joined the war, and before that the americans supported them with supplies and such, so... Canada are good friends with the US, and the canadians' role in this game is that of an assault squad, and the trench gun is a weapon fit for that role.

Anyways, if they are planning to add americans, the Winchester M1897 is very likely to be added.

I think they mainly only sold pistols and some machine guns.

US infact used alot of Entente equipment; 3/4 of the US infantry in France used the Enfield M1917 and their LMG was the Chauchat (US Marines were deployed with the LEwis gun but had it replaced upon arrival aparently)

It's been mentioned as a possible squad. If, when or how their implemented we don't know yet.

I do hope they bring the trench knife tho :P
