Modding
Ok, i know its been suggested previously by me and few others, but i really think this game would benefit a lot from possible modders- such as addition of squads from different nations, new battlefields, weapons, fronts.
I am aware that there will be most likely few mods wheter or not developers plan this (its been so for pretty much every game to date, dont see verdun being exception), so why not let them help you? Maybe even make some guidelines and competitions for certain stuff.

We would love modding but adding support with the unity engine is rather difficult.

Well, i do admit i dont know whole lot about modding in general, but from what i have pieced together, unity 5 should be quite ok in that- at least lot better than 4 was.
So, question is- will there be possibility of such thing in future (not immideate or with fixed date, just possibility)?
also found this: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/modding-user-generated-content-in-unity-5.311519/ (so it seems its already being worked on)

As a prolific modder and 3D modeler myself, modding would be an excellent addition. :) Even just the ability to make visual changes (like changing models and textures with no impact to gameplay) would be a nice change of pace for the game.

Even then, modding is one of the features of a game that keeps it alive for many years, even after sequals come out. Look at Company of Heroes 1 - even 9 years after release, it's still going strong with modding.

or games like C&C tiberian dawn, game that turns 20 in august- still worked on

Well for modding,

First we will need dedicated servers, which i think is possible to adapt. Plus having dedicated servers will help the competitive players and the Verdun League greatly. I know it will be more work fro DEVs to change all the server codes, but it also allows community to make their own servers.

Second, for modding, we would need access to Verdun modkit, which requires DEVs to give community members access to the Verdun source code and the last build of Unity engine. For that, i believe it could be released as a paid DLC for Verdun, and i think it would be worth the DEVs effort for it. If it can be done on Unreal engine, i think Unity offers a much more simple and user friendly platform for it. Only complication would be make Verdun's build moddable, and by paying for that DLC would finance the DEVs working on it.

Thirdly, as far as i know, DEVs require a more extended player base for this game to continue adding new content, and in my opinion, having the ability to mod Verdun or at least having some form of workshop compatibility would greatly increase the player base for the game, because Verdun is a unique tactical shooter and having mod support will make it interesting for players who are interested in realistic WW1 games.

Furthermore, i know DEVs are inspired by the games such as Red Orchestra. Red Orchestra 2 is workshop compatible and has a community which creates its own maps, some of hich are endorsed by the official owners of the game and added in the base game. For example the Heroes of the West mod started as a small community mod which came to be an officially endorsed mod, which added a totally diferent front as a steam-compatible DLC, using the base game units and mechanics. This would also help DEVs and take some pressure off them. DEVs are not inclined to add other WW1 fronts in Verdun because these fronts either do not have enough new content (same weapons, same armies and same front) or too small and irrelevant for the Western Front, but with the mod support, these front can be added as official Steam Workshop compatible content just like Heroes of the West for RO2, with many more other possibilities(Franco-Prussian war, Balkan war, or Boxer rebellion mod) for Verdun.

For another example, take Mount and Blade Warband. The game has mediocre graphics and solo-play is too repetitive but it has a thriving community and playerbase due to its replayability, thanks to the modding options and modding support.

This thread is more than a year old.

Boggles my mind why (and even how, how do they even find threads this old?) people rez threads like these.

I am omnipresent through time and space. I'm Warbie

If you were omnipresent throughout space and time, then you'd know that it's difficult for games to allow modding that are based on the Unity engine - it's not very friendly.

:P

That alone is enough reason not for modding to be enabled, if you ask me.

As i said it could be done through dedicated servers and having a modkit with access to Verdun's source build. I know it is complicated, but workshop integration is not impossible. I think using unity engine would even be easier than unreal engine for maps etc...

Possibility versus feasibility and seeing if it's worth the effort are two very, VERY different things. You're proved it's possibility, but not yet provided a decent enough reason to justify such monumental effort.

Hats-hats-hats-hats-hats!!!

But both setting up the dedicated servers and making the mod kit would require a huge amount of effort for the Devs and with the size of the player base the dedicated servers might not be a great move and similar with the mod kit.

my point was, to make this possibility "feasable" and reward the effort of the DEVs, that modkit can be sold as a paid DLC. So the modders will have to pay for the editor, but not the gamers playing the mods. Just a suggestion though

Perhaps, ut in my opinion, these changes will increase the player base itself

It might, but it would require something in lines of Desert combat (bf1942) or DayZ (arma 2) mods to make it worthwile for devs. So it really is hit or miss
