It's important to remember that it's fun, and it's a satire based on the common view of the 1st World War. It isn't particularly accurate though. (don't get me wrong, I love it, but it's not something that people should take seriously as a critque of the war)

I've found the period accuracy of some of the equipment etc used with the Blackadder series trumps a good number of ww1 films out there. Though yeah, it is of course a bit of fun ... something we like to draw from, from time to time, as the whole topic area can be quite depressing during long prodction periods. I hope to add a few more subtle BlackAdder easter eggs in the future, but by no means in a manner to depreciate from the seriousness of it all - something which I think the series itself captured exceedingly well in the final episode.

Well most of the kit and uniforms in Blackadder Goes Forth was original, although with post-war "additions" (medal ribbons etc, but you wouldn't take them off of a genuine uniform)
