Since you don't want to make an account for Epic (you don't have to install the Epic Launcher) tho, you're going to have to tell your friend the name and password for your custom match, and they'll have to find it and then join manually.
After y'all are in a match together, you can add each other as Game Friends. Then, in the future, you can join each other from the Main Menu.
Go to the Scoreboard or Squad Menus, click on your friend's name and then select the Add Friend Option.
Not it certainly just means it is more complicated to invite them that is all. Splitting steam and epic users would make no sense.
