Personally hate the gear system, I love the revolver but ive found that only squad leads can use em?

I personally hate most of the bolt actions minus the mosin due to iron sights so thats just my peave

I don't play most other sections, but usually Machine Gunners have access to sidearms as well (the British Lewis Gunner does), and specialists such as the British Bomber.

Also, if you're playing a 1st World War first person shooter, but hate bolt-action rifles, you're going to have a bad time.

i didnt know that about the lmgs but i suspect they are always taken

Well, as I said most of the specialists have access to sidearms too. (I believe the German Flammetruppen can use various pistols, Canadian trench raiders, at least one of the Scottish roles that isn't the section leader)

Gear system is kinda weird, I would like to see more customization in it.
