the difference between the P14 & M1917 Rifles

so today i was a squad defence with the US Army squad and had a guy ask what the defence was between the P14 & M1917, he left before i had chance to explain, so i decided to write this very basic post

they are the same rifle, it just that the P14 is chambered in .303 with the M1917 being the American modification and production version of the P14 chambered in .30-06

they do not have the same mag capacity, they do not have the same sway and im pretty sure they do not have the same rate of fire.

the 6th round in the M1917 isnt really counted, due the fact that all most main bolt action rifle eg SMLE, MLE, G98 ect can have around put in the chamber, and if ask why they did not put the a extra round, really it just a hassle & impractical, when they have a stripper clip

But from a game point of view then yes they different, but if you look at then in real life and in game, they are the practically the same rifle, just difference Cartridges and that really just the layman\non technical way of explaining it

that 6th round isn't in the chamber but the magazine. you can't just push another roudn in the chamber because if you lock the bolt, it will push the top round from the magazine into the one in the chamber. that's asking for trouble.

actually you can put a round in the chamber, you just have to push down on the round in the magazine so the bolt go's over the round thus preventing them from been chambering

30-06 is rimless compared to the british 303, also the front and back volley sights are gone from the pattern 17. It is the same rifle because the USA was building them for the British to begin with...since they had the tooing to do so they went ahead and purchased the design and refitted it to the American round....and because they got rid of the protruding rim of the 303 they were able to put a 6th into the rifle
