Can't build a fire?

I'm sorry I just don't understand this game. Nothing is making any sense. So to craft a basic fire I combine 7 leaves and 2 sticks...? That's what the books says yet when I add 7 leaves and 2 sticks to the crafting mat the cog icon doesn't appear. Combining 2 sticks works but I don't know what that makes since a 2-stick recipie is not in the book and I don't want to waste 2 sticks making something useless.

And I just combined 7 sticks to make a stick rack like it says in the book and it made a spear instead. What the hell is this sh*t?

Are you retarded? You click on the fire in the survival book and it places it down and then you have to put the sticks and leaves onto it. Stop blaming the game for your stupidity.

AHAHAH dude calm down you are doing it wrong . First you have to select the thing you want to build from the book and place it before adding the ingredients .

Are you high or something? You don't craft a fire, you build it from the survival book upon selection. Also, spears don't require *that* many sticks.

The recipe book is contradictory. Because the Crafting page says you open the I menu, then start placing items, then the Cog appears and you press it and a new crafted item emerges. All of these are explicit. But none of these actually works except for the long stick made of 2 usual sticks. That means some time on the development stage, the algorithm of crafting was changed, but not for all items, yielding a buggy behavior.
Those who never read pages, of course, think the behavior is obvious. It is - for people who are used to clicking fancy rectangles, even in horror survivor simulations.
