I still love Gris, but this one... oh boy. Cannot express how l love this one!
Neva is great. I'm an avid dog lover so the theme carried it a lot. There is combat in this game, which can be hit or miss depending on what you are looking for. What caught me by surprise was how easily I was able to immerse myself. Especially the first chapter had me interact with Neva in ways I didn't think about until I noticed what I was doing. The overall vibe of Neva would be 7.5/10 for me. Maybe an 8/10 depending on my mood.
So it's good! But I don't think it tops GRIS. It does equal GRIS in terms of aesthetics. Environment. Sound design. The pace of story telling. The music.
Gris is awesome. Neva disappoints me. I don't like fighting - neither against plants nor against animals. I love puzzles like Talos, Portal or Gris. There is enough violence in this world - I don't need it in games too.
I disagree. It's simplistic but its tight. Hitboxes are spot on. Animations are clean. It fits perfectly with the rest of the game.
The combat is simple as ♥♥♥♥, but feels amazing imo
Neva has a much more encompassing idea. Grief is there, but it's not the focus. It's just a part of the cycle of life. The lense is pulled way back and I found it's something you need to sit with a while for it to fully bloom.
Everything about the game is absolutely amazing. If I had to complain about one thing in the game, I'd say the gamma/bloom is a bit overdone. I turned the game gamma all the way down and there's a few spots in the game where things are still getting washed out. That COULD just be my monitor. OR maybe a Nvidia driver update could fix it. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it could be better.
Besides, Neva has a lot of things that remind tremendously to the movie The Princess Mononoke. I'm not talking about things that remind of the movie, I'm talking about things that are EXACTLY the same, so more than inspiration we would have to talk about plagiarism in some aspects. Although I'm enjoying Neva quite a lot, I didn't like that part because it seems to me that it takes too much elements from another cult work. And I think it was unnecessary. So in that respect it has been a disappointment.
Presentation is top notch though. Its simply a beautiful game.
Theme in GRIS resonated more with me and I liked the focus on puzzles more.
Gris 9 / 10 (also found its puzzles a bit too easy lol) Neva 7 / 10.
This this this
I've found Neva really unispired if compared to Gris
