For people facing controller issues

I'm not used to steam input since most of my games support Xbox controller out of the box, so I faced the issue.

Neva doesn't seems to natively recognize Xbox controller, so it requires a small action. Go into game properties > Controller > Activate steam input. After that it works, and the mapping is correct with what is displayed in game.

Thanks for the info but unfortunatly it does not work for me. I already had some issue with other games (elden ring) and matter what the changes to the input configuration, it usually do nothing until the game is patched...

Hopefully it will work for some people.

Aw, hope you'll find a solution ! By any chance do you play on an handheld in docked mode ? Probably unrelated and I didn't face it on Neva but on another game the internal controller of my ROG ally X would interfere with my Xbox controller and would always come top, I eventually got rid of the problem by disabling it in the Rog Ally controller. Or maybe you have a device which is consider first controller ?

Didn't work for me either, not sure what you did differently or what in your settings allowed it to recognize the controller since so many are posting that the xbox controllers simply will not register with the game.

I just activated Steam input in the game options and it automatically listed all options as covered by steam input. From then my Xbox one controller worked. And the internal controller of my ROG ally x works regardless of if steam input is enabled or not.

I read somewhere that one of the people facing the issue has a Series X controller, what's yours ? I'm wondering if it might be the generation of the controller. Or maybe it works for me because of a facilitating layer provided in stock ROG Ally X (armoury crate, a software provided by ASUS, does provide a lot of gaming oriented options including internal controller).

Found a workaround :
Unplug your keyboard before launching the game, that and anything else that can be considered a controller. The game seems to default to keyboard and doesn't have hotswapping. So when you unplug the keyboard, the controller is detected, and then you can plug it back in without issues.

I have similar issue. It works with steam override, but it's not optimal. Can't unplug keyboard on a MacBook:)

I have both xbox and ps controllers and none worked till I tried your method. Thanks!

I'm using an old ps3 controller, which also isn't set to work with Neva, however I've found I can get it to work just fine if I open the game from my library. If I try to open it directly from the desktop icon it won't register and will default to keyboard, but if I open steam and then open it from there it seems to work just fine. I'm not sure what the difference is but it might help someone else with the same issue.

Wanted to make the dualsense edge controller work because of the dualsense features, advertised for the PS5 version. The controller didn't work at first at all. Turned out that the dualsense edge is not supported, only the normal dualsense controller, though the dualsense features unfortunately still don't work on the PC version—shame on these devs. To make the normal dualsense work, I had to repair it with the PC—for some reason it couldn't connect though Windows still remembered the device. The button prompts are for PS5. Also tried using the steaminput—this also works, but in this case the XBOX button prompts are used. I hope the full dualsense support, like on PS5, is added in a later patch.

I am running Steam on a MacBook Pro M2. I have a new 8Bitdo controller and I can get it to show up in Steam settings, and edit the buttons, but I cant get it to show up inside Neva. Neva controller settings only shows keyboard. I even tried restarting with keyboard and mouse turned off. I can only play the game with the keyboard.
