Any builds suggestions?

What is the priority on upgrades ? Should I try to gather different stuff first to fill the slots? Or character specific spells/skills first? FOcus on maxing the main weapon of char or rather go for collab upgrades first ?

the best thing should be max the main weapon 1st, while also trying other stuffs. If you just want to finish a stage, anything would work. The thing that you need pay attention is whether you want "tank" build or "haste" build. Every characters is unique so it's yours to decide.

What Desumachi said, but also make sure to look at your skills on the characters. Some of them like Mori are built around beefing up her main weapon so you should focus on that, but some like Fauna are built around her skills, specifically doing damage by being healed so you want regeneration items on her.

Also don't be afraid to ignore the main weapon if you feel it's not great. They aren't all created equal after all.
