When sailing near a fort, the screen freezes

The game still runs! Near forts, HUD markers still move as expected and so does the map. Anyone else with this problem or maybe a solution?

I havn't had this issue but had a similar thing happen in AC Revelations. The wierdest thing though was that the fix was to enable v-sync in the games graphic settings.

I might be a little late to this party but turning on volumetric fog cured it for me.

for me it solves the issue with the freezes, just with changing the Anti-Aliasing graphic settings. Just try another option and most of the case it will solve the issue with freezes. If you tried all Anti-Aliasing option, and it still freezes, just try to change any other graphic settings option, till you find the right graphic settings that work and makes you can play the game smoothly.
