AC3 sailing vs. AC4 sailing
The ship control / combat in AC3 was great. It actually felt like you were piloting a ship atop rolling waves, using the wind to move you.

I'm starting to wonder if AC4 will use this and make it better, or go the predictable route and dumb down the ship controls to: foward to go / backward to stop, you have 12000 guns on your ship that would realistically have 20 + orbital air strikes + magical repair drones + ya da ya da.

Anyone have any info to back either up?

P.s. I am aware the actual mechanics for the water will be awesome. I'm more curious about ship piloting / skill / all that.

The whole game is about being special and getting powerful weapons.
Yeah that's the stupid part.

. Also, mortars are not magic, they are cannons that fire shots very high and then use gravity impact over long range... no magic there :/
But firing them while you are moving, from an unstable/rocking surface, without a mortar launcher IS magic.....

if the protagonist was like any other bozo, like if you were just sailing another pirate ship, and everyone else was sailing a pirate ship, you would get your ass kicked
Oh you mean like all the actual pirates that sailed the same (actually usually inferior) ships as their enemies and didn't get thier ass kicked.... but instead won through skill, intelligence, and guile. Yeah that must have been what you meant.

The mortar launchers are located at the front of the ship and at around 20 seconds into this video you can see them.

I think the Jackdaw can be upgraded to have a total of 56 cannons. Now if we ignore the ship type and simply compare it with something like the USS Constitution (a frigate built back in 1797 (or close enough)) which I think has almost the same length, then the number of cannons the Jackdaw can have isn't all that implausible.

I agree and I am interested in seeing the fleet controls.

Those two steel drums launch the fiery hellstorm that is a mortar launch( as seen in fort attacking video)? It is nice that there are actually mortar launchers, and I hope it's not third person, COD, with boats but I'm worried.

Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for the shower of info everyone.
