Sounds like bollocks to me. I have Far Cry 3 on an external hard drive.
Create a second steam library on your second drive, then tell Steam to install in that folder.
DONE.
Maybe the UPlay version, but as Galak above said, with Steam, you can install on another drive pretty easily. My main Windows drive is a small SSD, so I keep no games at all on it - I have my entire Steam library on my F: drive.
It's pretty simple to do, but you can also just Google it for easy instructions.
I got Far Cry 3 and AC 4 for Pc through steam and I can't get them to play unless they are on my C drive...Did you do anything special to let them run from F?What OS are you using?
Ubisoft is full of crap, because I have all my game clients and games on another drive and they all work fine. I do have a few games on my OS SSD [C] but again u can install them anywhere.
For Steam, u go to Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders and point to a different drive location if u want the option of where u want your game to be housed. If you do not do this for Steam, then your games will always install in \Steam\SteamApps\Common subfolder of where the game client is originally installed to. Once u have multiple entries with Steam Library Folders set, then upon a game install after this, u will notice there is a choice when the Steam installer screen appears.
To avoid issues, don't install a game client or a game into Program Files (x86) or any other "system folder"
For example, when installing a game client, install to the root folder on the drive u want, like shown below.
x:\Steam
x:\Uplay
x:\Origin
Or however u want to do it to be. Not sure why games or game clients default to using the Program Files structure, but they should never use this. Just doesn't make sense to do so.
Uplay is a bit poopy about install directories, forcing C:/
after few tries i got it saved @ D:/ drive together with Steam and all the rest. worked fine, played the game through without any issues.
Have the Ubisoft game launcher on the C drive and the Ubisoft games (AC4 bf, might & magic heroes VI) on the D drive.
Only usin Uplay.
