Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag

Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag

Triple Buffering
Wow, what a difference having it enabled. I've found that my fps stuttering (like a 50 to 45 drop randomly) with it enabled its constant.

To everyone saying this game isn't optomized (which it isn't) download D3doverriver. Works wonders. Enable V-Sync + Triple Buffering.

It's a ~30 FPS drop. The game goesn't natively support triple buffering, so when you try to enable it normally alongside v-sync (like in NVIDIA Control Panel), the game basically ignores it. Any time you don't reach the 60 FPS (or whatever your monitor is), it drops all the way down to 30. Using v-sync through your video card and triple buffering through D3DOverrider fixes that problem - you then get your full range of framerates without shooting down to 30 all the time.

You do realize this game is a Direct X game right? Not a GL game right? Of course Nivida Panel won't work. It only works for GL games.

D3Doverrider is for Direct X games.
GL? If you're meaning as in "OpenGL", that doesn't make any sense, because "GL" stands for "Graphics Library". Not only that, but... what exactly are you trying to say? That NVIDIA Control Panel doesn't have any effect on games which use DirectX? Because that's just flat-out wrong.

D3DOverrider is a 3rd-party application which hasn't been updated in something like two years and is only "necessary" in specific situations like this one.
Yes OpenGL and your wrong it does not work on games that use Direct X. Not sure where your getting your facts from but this is a gripe people have with Nivida.
triple buffering from cp does not work on dx games for AMD either.

First, I don't understand why everyone who has a 60hz screen (majority of people) doesn't just leave VSync on in CP and off in-game. Is that wrong or not preferred? I haven't thought about or had a vsync problem since I did that, including never having the 30FPS problem with AC4. Albeit, I have another problem with the game that has to do with SLI+MP, but that's another story.

Now the reason I'm here, I don't like having third-party programs downloaded for things like this because they usually just cause new problems in the future (leftover files, registries, etc.). Most of the games I play lately are DX (mostly DX11) games. What would triple buffering with D3DOverrider do for me? Did it really fix the OP's problem, or is it just because he finally found another vsync-enabling setting that does the same thing as CP?

all d3doverrider does is force vsync and triplebuffering now why people do this instead of the games vsync is because ubisoft locks 30 FPS on consoles and this carries over to PC because they never do a proper port its almost like they like sabotaging the PC version with d3doverrider it allows you to have the exact frames holding out at 60 and above instead of having an awesome system being locked up at 30fps and dipping below that when it shouldnt same thing happened with AC3

I know all that, especially the bad port part lol what I'm asking is: Why is NO ONE using NVIDIA/AMD's control panel to enable vsync? Nvidia's vsync did the same thing for me that D3DO is doing for you, unless triple buffering really does fix input lag (I notice about up to 0.25-0.5 seconds of lag here without D3DO). Everyone could've just used their GPU control panel instead of downloading this third-party program, right? Or am I missing something?

I repeat I never had this 30FPS problem because I enable Vsync for all games in nvidia's control panel and disable vsync in-game (because it's already enabled in gpu). So, what's all this talk about D3DOverrider? Would enabling triple buffering for my DX games really improve something?
because nvidia vsync doesnt force vsync for AC4 so if you think its working then your sadly mistaken your fps are not where they should be

I get constant 60fps, most of the time. I know very well what it looks like, Fraps does too. I'm guessing, now, running in SLI mode forces vsync if you have it enabled in control panel. Back to the main question, anybody think D3DOverrider will improve anything else, like input lag?

My frame rates were suttering randomly, triple buffering fixed that. While I will go down to 40 at times it will remain at 40 - it won't go down to 35 then back to 40 which creates lag.

Thank you! I was hoping it would fix the lag during fps drops. I'll give this D3DOverrider a go.

Yeah its great. What annoys me is that its required to play the game to obtain some kind of even ness with fps.

FYI know some of you might have missed this but to unlock your fps even while on V-Sync while in the game press I think your windows botton to lock your computer. Unlock it and it will help your fps.

Wierd fix but I made a jump from 40 to 45 in areas.

This really just goes to show how poorly optomized this game is.
Windows+L

dont know if it really helps to squeeze some FPS out... didnt try it as yet since UBI Server seems to be down atm :/
game is running smooth now on my syst. : VSYNC on (need to be activated in NVIDIA control panel - global properties [everything else there should be set to auto or adaptive])
ive got Triple buffer off in NVIDIA global settings

ingame: i put SSAO or HBAO off; Anti-AliasQuatity off

...FPS trouble has gone.
