The Mayan Outfit solves the problem of an assassins creed set in the present.
Just think about it. It deflects metal projectiles. That means guns can't be used against you as an assassin in the present day, forcing your enemies to engage in close combat. All they have to do is to search for memory fragments from Edward to find the armor.

I don't know if that would work gameplay wise. Something more fun would probably be a first civ artifact that helps deflect rounds but can't stop them all. Means you still have to be quick and use predator tactics.
But what if someone shoot you in the head ?

i have the mayan outfit and its not memory fragments that get u it, its the mayan stones to open the door at the assassins base i believe it tuplar or some ♥♥♥♥. but i have a enormous amount of memory fragments and they dont get me ♥♥♥♥ and their are hundereds, and yes it deflects all bullets so those marksmen in the towers are powerless

Game called Hitman?

You're spot on with this. It is a valid reason why if the game was set in the present, enemies would still engage in melee combat with you. However, Ubisoft has said that they are going to avoid time periods in the 20-21st century. It's not likely your idea will get used, sorry ):

Cars, technology, security cameras, GPS and satellites. Pretty much makes jumping into a haystack pointless, and would make the whole idea of "ill just go run and hide" seem like a dumb idea. Give some thought into it, then you'll realize half the stuff that makes even some sense in the AC games would have nothing in the modern day.

And the whole argument of sacrificing realism vs fun gameplay would just be taken to the extreme, it would be lose/lose. You'd have very dumb AI that pulls the player out of the immersion the AC games try to create, or have somewhat realistic AI and it would be impossible to do anything and frustrate the player. And again, cars.

There are a lot of reasons why I don't think an Assassin's Creed game set fully in the present day would work, but I won't touch on those right now. While you may be right about the Mayan armor providing an advantage in a modern setting, you're presuming that the armor still exists. It may very well still be around somewhere, but there's probably a good chance that it's been destroyed or lost somehow.

most likely abstergo hunted down all items down already and have them in their possession since they know everything they need to know about the desmond line plus modern assassins are just spies trying to take them down from within they have no real power

It doesn't need to be set fully in the modern day world. But they could make the modern setting more interesting. The modern assassins tend to not accomplish much. Maybe this could help them.
