The Game erased my save.

Lost a good 4 hours of play a few times already. The game keeps saying its saving, but have a crash or log out and come back and the save is so far back in time.

I MIGHT be able to help:


You need to find the save game folder for the game which is likely to be here:


C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\whateversetofrandomcodesyouhave \437


If you have the correct location you should find files like:
1.save
1.save.metadata


and so on.


In my case I found some suspicious files:
2.save.DELETED
2.save.metadata.DELETED


I backed up the whole folder to my desktop as is and then removed the "DELETED" part of the filenames (from the original folder).


I then ran the game back up and 10hrs of game re-appeared!"

Thanks, man! But, ever since I deselected the "synx saves to ubi servers" it never happened again. I DO still copy the save data to desktop before quiting, so if it happens again I'll try your option out.

disabling cloud sync will not stop save games from being erased, often when uplay starts and it updates while scanning your computer if it detects anything unauthorized per Uplay TOS on your computer it may delete the save. This is a known issue with all ubisoft games, happens to me all the time with Splinter Cell blacklist, I just got used to it and backup my save at the end of every play session.

I found my saves in the \437 file that Sir Brood mentions above. I also had the 2.save.deleted and 2.save.metadata.deleted files. Plus I had a 3.save and 3.save.metadata. These were updating until a 3.save.tmp file showed up. After that there were no more updated to the save files. If I quit the game the 3.save.tmp file went away and when I started the game again it was fine until that 3.save.tmp file showed up again. So I now check for that 3.save.tmp file almost every time it says it is saving. It's easy to check hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and click on Task Manager and you will get back to the desktop. Then navigate to the location that Sir Brood shows above. You should find six files, three sets of two, for saves 1, 2, and 3. It's not deleting saves it's just not saving the later ones. If it is updating then just click on the game icon at the bottom of the screen to return to the game.

I see BridgetFisher is still trolling these forums with incorrect & false information. I'd suggest ignoring them. Oh and BF - if your having a problem with saves being nuked while having trainers, cheats, etc installed on your comp... I'd suggest not to use trainers, cheats & such :p

And as for "well known" issue plaguing all Ubisoft games? What a joke. The only game that seems to suffer the missing save game bug is AC4 (ie this game)., and maybe Splinter Cell Blacklist... but doing a quick check of SCB's steam & Ubisoft forums doesn't bring up any complaints about lost saves. So seems it's isolated to just this game sadly (and one of the reason's I'm avoiding it for now), unless you belive the troll BF... but then again, BF is the only person I've seen complaining about loosing saves in SCB.

I've used Uplay games for quite a few years now, played through multiple games multiple times.. and never once ever had a save game vanish on me. And the only Uplay supported game I have *ever* seen complaints about missing/deleted saves... is AC4. Games I've played: AC2, AC2: Revelations, AC2: Brotherhood, AC3 (had other issues, but not with saves), FarCry 3, FC3: Blood Dragon & Anno 2070... never had any problem with saves on any of those games, on any of my multiple playthroughs.

and yes, I know what I provide is Anecdotal evidence, then again.. same goes with the troll BF. I'd suggest going and checking the forums for other Uplay games on both Steam Discussions, Steam Forums & Ubisoft forums... you'll see the only ones complaining of lost saves being in AC4 forums.

I really hope for AC4 players that whatever is causing the saves deletion bug to happen can be found and fixed. I'd love to actually play it!
