Mary Read in fact. Or so her mother calls her.
----------------------------SPOILER ALERT-------------------------------
HAHAHA. I had the same thing. I was like damn her voice is sexy who is that.... Oh your're a James. A dude. Hm. Then a few hours later Kenway took his hat off and it wasnt a James it was a Mary! I was relieved.
Nope.. you are definately on the homosexual scale :)
That or James Kidd = Mary Read
Btw Mary Read is one of the two women who were caught and tried for piracy during the age of piracy that all these people existed in. The other being Anne Bonny. They are history's only notable female pirates from that time.

Damn, I feel so betrayed.
Bah, I had the same thought, except I really wasn't sure of the character's gender at all. The voice sounded feminine, but it could also just be that he's really young and has a higher pitched voice. Once I thought it was just the voice actor, I forgot about it and just assumed he wasn't a she...
Biggest "I KNEW IT!" moment without genuinely being 100% sure.
