Game Crashed and I Lost my Saves

Uplay had to update today before I started the game. When I loaded the game up the screen went black (though I could still hear in-game sound) and my computer locked up. I couldn't alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del so I just restarted. When I got back to the game all of my progress was gone.

I've heard problems with this game and losing saves, so I made sure to have cloud saves off before I started. Has anyone seen this problem? Did the game delete the save files from my HDD? Does anyone know where they would be located?

I just had my computer blue screen in the middle of boarding a Man-o-war. When I got it restarted and back into the game it had no saved games anymore, but U-play could still tell me that I'd played for 45 hours (all of which seems to be gone now.

Same problem here: PC shutdown due to loss of power in the house. No saves upon restart.

Did either of you have any luck with Steam/Ubisoft support?

Sorry, but i never found a way to get my saves back. I did however find out where the saves are kept locally, and just made sure to back them up after every play.

The saves are located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\542a7f00-3756-40f7-8055-9421c73aa826\437

That weird code may be different for you though, im not 100% sure. Hope this helps

Just so you guys know, cloud save was disabled for this game awhile ago. So it doesn't matter if you have it on or off.

In my save folder I have the following:

1.save (4KB)
1.save.metadata (1KB)
2.save (70KB)
2.save.metadata (1KB)
2.save.tmp (70KB)

And what's weird is I never used the 2nd save slot within the game.

Old post but maybe someone will find this useful - I figured out how to get the saves back when this happens. Navigate to the folder with the save files (this differs depending on which version of the game you have). For me after the crash I had both '2.save' and '2.save.old'. I deleted the first one, and renamed the second to take its place. When I went back into AC4 my save game was back.

i was 97% into the game and i was doing the final mission,but suddenly i got stuck i couldn't get out of the box i got stuck 1 minute late the game crashed and it was a black screen i couldn't (alt+f4 ....... ctrl+shift+esc..you get the point) . I restarted my PC and launched the game in the game it said 1% progress but it still said 60 hours of playing i still had all my achivments saved so as the stuff i've unlocked all saved but not the story...the story and progress in to the game.......GONE
