Click Play from uplay, screen goes black, then comes back stating "AC4BFSP.exe has stopped working." Can't start the game.

Is anyone else having problems running other games?

When I first got Black Flag I was able to play for an hour or so until I got the error everyone else is getting. Now when I start Black Flag 9/10 it crashes before I even start a game. Even if I get into the game it crashes within 20 secs or so.

I've just tried to load up some older games that i've previously played with no problems and i'm having the same issues with them as well. Batman, Far cry 3 etc. Anyone else seeing this?
Yes, my Assassin's Creed II will no longer launch. I think it's a uplay thing myself. Good luck getting Ubi to think that.

I think I may have stumbled onto somthing. Could the users who are still running into this, post up the data from the crash reports. They can be found in:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\
You should be able to find them (if your not familiar with going through your Event viewer) by searching that folder for:
AppCrash_AC4BFSP.exe*. [The end will have a long random string]
But this file seems to give you a huge hint as to which is causing your issue, as the last module to load is going to be your bad apple.

IE: Right now mine is

LoadedModule[111]=C:\Windows\system32\nvd3dum.dll
State[0].Key=Transport.DoneStage1
State[0].Value=1
FriendlyEventName=Stopped working
ConsentKey=APPCRASH
AppName=AC4BFSP.exe

Meaning the issue is with Nvidia 3d drivers. it was crashing at the previous dsound.dll, but a new sound card fixed that =)

Even just posting the last few lines should make it much easier to offer ideas.

so I got

LoadedModule[0]=C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag\AC4BFSP.exe
State[0].Key=Transport.DoneStage1
State[0].Value=1
FriendlyEventName=Stopped working
ConsentKey=APPCRASH
AppName=AC4BFSP.exe
AppPath=C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag\AC4BFSP.exe

which means that there is a problem with the exe right? anyone got some recomendations to fix that?
I was incorrect in stating that installing a secondary sound card allowed the dsound.ll to load, as once I uninstalled Nvidia 3d vision it went straight back to crashing at the dsound module. I also have built in Realtek audio hardware, and I believe this is the reason for it crashing. If I manage to get past it, I will certainly let you know.

This appears to be the top section of the file, which will always state the exe name. At the very bottom of the list of lines which read:

LoadedModule[105]=C:\Windows\system32\dsound.dll

What is the very last one to load?
I finished a windows update and it happened to work afterwards. Not sure if they're related though.
this is the entire error report http://screencast.com/t/9KdlC5hgkf what I gave was the last part.

I had assumed your issue stemmed from an API issue related to ntdll.dll, but now I can see it is from StackHash_56f5...

The StackHash error occurs when DEP is invoked and has an issue with whatever application you’re trying to run (and there are several hundred out there that seem to give it fits). The error is related to Data Execution Prevention.
(Quote borrowed from microsoft)

You may try:

1.Open the Start menu and click Control Panel
2.Browse to System Maintenance then System
3.In the left panel, select Advanced System Settings from the available links
4.You should now see the System Properties Window, which will have three sections. The top section is labeled Performance and has a Settings button. Click this button.
5.Select the Data Execution Prevention tab.
6.Select the option which reads Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
7.Use the Browse button to locate the AC4 executable file
8.Add it to your exceptions list.
Click Apply or OK to commit your changes.
well, I tried to reinstall the game again, so it it currently downloading again, but I will get back if it works or not. Thank you so much for the help.
This is ♥♥♥♥♥♥...like Ubisoft's thinking...
I reinstalled my entire OS, then my GPU drivers and Soundcard drivers. Worked after that.
That's very ♥♥♥♥♥♥ option...Thanks mate...but i dont think it'll be smart if i just for game reinstall my entire OS
Well guys, https://www.facebook.com/UbisoftSupport/posts/10152067062737464?notif_t=like
Like this (only if you want), cuz i want to hear Ubisoft's resolution.
If they ignoring us on Steam or uPlay, they can't ignore us on FB.
Yeah, not reinstalling OS for this unoptimized game. I'll go the refund route first. Especially since so many are having this issue. I'm also not on Facebook, but hopefully you get enough folks complaining on there. I'm just going to wait for Steam to respond since there are no valid fixes.

I did reinstall my Nvidia driver and included the 3D Vision, HD Audio, pretty much the whole package. In the past I'd only been installing the driver and Physx. It still didn't make a difference. Same crash. All the other games I play regularly still work just great.
Here's what I got from Steam support. Already tried it all, still crash with AC4BFSP.exe has stopped working.
