I'm hoping you're referring to chaining shots together, not using "chain shot" (the two cannon balls linked by a chain for destroying ships' masts). If so, like they said above, just spam the shoot button until you're out of bullets. It'll aim for you, but maybe not at the badguy you want him to.

As for pistol swords, they don't use your ammunition and you can't aim with them. They're purely cosmetic for making finishing moves look cool, but I stopped using them because they just make your combos take too long.

I pretty much ignore speed and combo because i don't see a general effect.

Well, you want high speed and low combo since you get to insta-kill attacks faster, at least that's what I've been told. But when I get into large open confilicts I just use hidden blades and counter-kills (and human shields if there's an enemy with a gun), so swords are mostly cosmetic for me.

I had always assumed 'combo' referred to the ease at which you could continue one-shot-killing people once it started. Anyway, above when I said it slowed your combos down, I meant just that. Sometimes that extra 2 seconds it takes for him to finish by firing the sword pistols adds up to be annoying. I know, a second or two - big deal, but when I'm going from ship to ship I just want to clear the deck as quickly as possible.

Well I'm going by what I've read from other posts about what the Combo stat actually does. Like I said, it's faster for me to counter-kill with the hidden blades in crowd combat than anything else, so my view on what Combo actually does could be way off the mark.
