How to drop fire barrels?

I'm embarrased to ask this but can someone tell me how to drop the fire barrels during naval combat? I hadn't played this game in a few days and have been unable to figure this one out. Desperation set in and here we are. Thanks for any advice. Playing with a 360 controller.

just look at the back of the ship then press fire

If you dont aim but look front, left/right, or aft you will see that the cannons or barrels are highlighted in silver. Yep, just look aft.

Also, when you hold right click facing the back of the ship, you can dump the fire barrels from either side of the ship.

Fire barrels are terrible at first, but they get MASSIVELY more useful when you combine with an upgraded RAM. Go in slightly to a side, drop fire barrels behind you on that side, then hit em with a triple-attack: Ram, Cannon and Barrel. Anything smaller than a Frigate is disabled instantly, and you can even get a good start on a Man O'War if he's taken by surprise!

Nice! I wonder what that control would be on a 360 controller but that sounds like a pretty brutal approach.

The same button you would use to aim your cannons is used to aim the barrels. It's also what you'd use to aim with your pistol.
