Should I play AC IV before AC III?

Since it is set in a time period before AC 3, I was wondering whether it would make sense to play this before AC 3 or would that mess up the story?

yes. the story is before the AC 3. The chronology goes like this: AC IV -> AC IV Freedon Cry -> AC Rogue -> AC 3 / AC Unity.

in my opinion AC 3 is full of bugs and boring.

Black Flag has a ton of spoilers for the plot events of AC3, so you want to play it last.

Technically it is set before AC3, but only the Animus sequences where you play as Kenway. The present day stuff is after the events of those in AC3, hence the spoilers.

The only interesting things you're missing from AC2-AC3 is what happens outside of the Animus. AC1 was badass, the rest, until AC4 were pretty stupid and boring in my opinion. Again, that's just my opinion.

yup. MC of AC3 is a angsty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ whinner, good in a fight and his story isnt all that bad but not worth ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 60 dollars jesus ubisoft give me back ezio conner is a boring douchebag. All in all the combat aspects of ac4 felt better then ac3 IMO, though I do wish they would have swaped the numbers around a bit or covered more of the uprising in the civiwar. The dlc for ac3 is hilarious awesome fun, far better then the vanilla
