Computer specification question
Hi,

I bought my computer a while ago and I don't really know that much about them. Would my computer be considered low end, or medium end?

Intel Core i7 740QM 1.73/2.93 GHz
8 GB Ram
Nvidia Geforce GTX 360M (1024 MB)
1 TB Harddrive

I ask because I've been wanting to try and play Assassin's Creed Black Flag, and I saw a lag fix for low end computers on steam. I've played it in the past, but wanted to try again to see if it runs okay. I'm in the process of redownloading it.

Any help would be great! Thanks!

I'd say by now it's low end. It's just old is the problem. When you got it it was medium or high but today it's worse than a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

You can build a better desktop tower from parts that's also better than a console for about $400-$500~ with nice comfortable good quality stuff.

You can build a super-low-budget desktop PC for $300~ that's still better than what you've got.

Like I say, when you got it like 5 years ago or whatever it was fairly top end for a laptop which is like mid-range for a desktop. Just that 5 years later it's pretty obsolete for gaming. Specially with the latest console generation having just come out for both PlayStation and Xbox.

If you are interested in building a new desktop I'm happy to try and help you with that. It would be the best step for a new gaming PC. specially if you've got some desktop peripherals for your laptop like a external mouse and keyboard or desktop monitor. Even without anything to work with though a desktop will still be cheaper and higher performance for gaming.

thats an older notebook
firt gen i7m
and the gtx 360m was a mid notebook gpu at the time

its cpu is alot better than ps4/xbone
but gpu is weak for todays games

i7 740qm =quad 1.7-2.9 with ht (more than double the speed of the consoles)
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i7-740QM-Notebook-Processor.31146.0.html

gts 360m is close to 9800m gt, quite a bit weaker than teh console gpus
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTS-360M.24058.0.html

its gpu is too weak for ac black flag
requires a gtx 260, the 360m is nowhere near that strong

rove is wrong, a $300pc will be weaker than your current notebook
$300-400 apu build will have a better gpu, but cpu will be half the performance

Okay thanks a lot for your help. So I can definitely not run Assassin's Creed Black Flag ?
You don't meet the minimum requirements (GTX260 here http://gamesystemrequirements.com/games.php?id=1900) for the game. Your GPU has 96 cores which is like a 9600GT (your card is a rebadged , the GTX260 has 192 cores which is twice as many. It's also based on older architecture than the desktop GTX260 (as it is rebadged from an older core).

So I wouldn't buy it unless you've seen it being tested with that specific GPU.
Alright, I appreciate all the help. As for buying the game, I bought it a while ago thinking I could run it, it ran okay on low settings but I'd like to try again with the guide I saw on steam for low end computers. I'm not going to bother with laptops anymore, next computer I buy will be a desktop, that way I can upgrade anything I want to fit the future. Thanks again.

Hi again, would the GT 730 2 GB be able to run Assassin's Creed Black Flag?

Hi again, would the GT 730 2 GB be able to run Assassin's Creed Black Flag?

1) It's a desktop card, you can't put it in a laptop.

2) It may be able to run it though it is slightly below the minimum GTX 260 in stats.

Are you thinking to build or buy a desktop specifically to run this game?

Firstly I'd suggest building your own as it's far cheaper.

Secondly I can help with that and at minimum you should be looking to get a R7 260X or GTX 750 ti. Also you should try for more than minimum. You can build a console killing PC for $500 or less.
Okay, because my dad bought a computer and it has that card in it, the GT 730. I was thinking of upgrading to a better one. Not sure yet which. To play Assassin's Creed Unity, what would be a good video card? I'm upgrading the computer my dad bought, I got a i7 4970 quad core processor so far, and it has 8GB of ram.
Your Processor is one of the lowest i7 processors, but its still pretty good !
Your graphiccard isnt that good (not the same level as your Processor) but for AC Blackflag it is enough.
8 GB ram is completly enough.
Dont get an new Processor, you should invest the money in a new graphiccard.

i hope i helped you.
Great, thanks to both of you for your help, I appreciate it. As for Unity, I heard that too, terrible framerates. Maybe now that it's been out a while it runs okay? I'll have to ask on the Unity forum about that. Thanks again!
