Does it get better after "And My Sugar?"
I've only played a little but really, how low of a low point is "And my Sugar?" Because that mission was like pulling teeth. Someone please tell me that that was the worst mission in the game and that everything else is piraty fun on the open seas.

There are a good number of missions like that. a ton are just "sneak, don't get caught. fulfil boring task, leave". The open seas are more the way to travel to land to complete the objective than the setting. But there is plenty to do in the sea but most of the land missions (which is almost everyone as far as i can recall) is excrutiating. There is more pirate fun after this point but don't expect to leave boring missions like this behind.

That's... troubling. Should I just abandon Black Flag then? I really wanna have some piraty fun, but if there are more missions where the stealth and scenario design is THIS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BROKEN then I might just give up on AC as a whole.

Black Flag is fine, I spent a lot of the time just sailing around being a pirate

While I could be wrong, it appears that the islands are not actually fully explorable like the maps indicate. You can, I think, only go where it shows a lighter area on the map...and in many cases that isn't much. Gotta say that was a disappointment.....I am going back to AC II as the story is far more engaging and makes sense, unlike AC IV.

You do know that the whole premise of a assassin's creed game is to use stealth, strategy and cognative thinking skills, correct? Black Flag sure brought a bunch of run and gun COD people to the franchise.

Yes, it gets better. At least up until the point I'm at in the game, because I'm maybe 25% of the way through the story.

That mission is not only tedious and aggravating, it suffers from a glitch. See link above. There are a couple of ways to make that mission easier, such as, I had no idea when I did it that I could Eagle Vision-tag the two targets and "follow" them that way without losing them. I don't know how many times I tried over and over to keep hidden, but stay within range. Then there's the pickpocket glitch mentioned in the link.
Jamison Mar 31, 2015 @ 9:07am
Best way to follow the two targets is use the rooftops. That is what I do atleast.
EbonHawk Mar 31, 2015 @ 10:13am
I tried the rooftops too, but had bad luck with that. Maybe I just had a bad run, but it's usually a walk in the park. It was just this mission that didn't seem to go as planned for me.

Well, I can't really tell you what to do in this scenario because maybe you might find the pirate/sailing sections to be worth it but you should know that there is a tonne of boring stealth missions awaiting you if you continue and if you didn't like this one, you will not like most of them. I personally gave up on the game after so many boring missions in a row most of which felt like the same mission over and over again and I have no intention of returning to it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Seeing as the general consensus is "story missions are dull, but there's still plenty of sailing" and "that one was just a really broken one", then I think I'll stick with it just a little longer to see if I should just switch back to games like Saints Row 4 or Assassin's Creed 2 while I pray in vain for a Steam release of Wind Waker. That is, if Black Flag will stop crashing. *sigh* And again, I'd like to thank everyone for their feedback. Except for Jamison because seriously man, Call of Duty? That was uncalled for.

I haven't had one crash yet in AC4. Got a ton of them in Far Cry 4 recently, that is until I figured out that Fraps was the culprit. Fraps and FC4 did NOT play well together on my system. Stopped using Fraps, and all crashes stopped.

I'm assuming you've done the usual troubleshooting for AC4? Verifying game cache, reinstalling the DX and other files that come with the game, etc? What about disabling any of the things like AMD Evolved, or whatever that thing is? It is causing a ton of issues with some Ubisoft games, this might be one of them. And if you have a Geforce card, I recommend at the very least, opening up the Nvidia control panel and creating a specific profile for any modern game (say, last 2 or 3 years). They seem to like certain settings on certain systems, and you can consult google and search for "assassin's creed 4 black flag performance tweaks". Also, Geforce Experience seems to be working a lot better lately. Three games (Far Cry 4, Batman Arkham Origins, AC4: Black Flag) have never worked so well after letting GE optimize my games, and I had already read everything I could find on tweaking them myself manually.

There's another one, too, made by EVGA, I think, that causes a lot of issues with games and crashing. Something about the overlay interfering with the games...I can't remember the specifics. Doesn't hurt to try turning some of that stuff off just to check though.

Unfortunately, the problem seems to be my laptop. The crashing seems to have started around the same time that my disk space started to mysteriously hover around 96% when I have nothing except for Steam and theTask Manager open. From the looks of it, it's ANOTHER corrupted Windows 8.1 update.

I did some checking around. The most prevalent solution (that corresponds to your symptoms) is to disable superfetch and windows search. I don't know if you have tried that yet. In order to disable superfetch and windows search: 1) WinKey+R (run command window) 2) type in services.msc 3) find both superfetch and windows search and disable them.

See if that helps you out. And yeah the COD comment was alittle overdone on my part, your OP just came across that way.

Are we talking about disk space, or disk usage? Because if it's disk usage, I get the same issue on my desktop but with Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit where there are times when I just about can't do anything on my system because the disk usage has gone up to max and I can hear it churning and chugging along, like it's trying to do something. And nothing's going on that I can tell, but Task Manager shows disk usage at 100% constantly for around 5 or 10 minutes sometimes. Usually just after I start my system up or come back to it after it's been hibernating. One of the processes that's running is Windows' Search Indexer.
