Killing a Panther.

Guys, I really want to kill this panther. I'm at the first island that you arrive at in the game, and they have marked chests, Abstergo Fragments, 'songs' for your ship mates, dead animals ripe to be skinned, and finally animals that you can kill (and skin) on your own. It's just wild pigs/boars, and then the Jaguar(s).

It says in the manual that in order to be eligible for receiving a prize - something for multip-layer and/or a cheat of sorts - you have to kill 5 wild animals and kill & skin 15 willd animals, and finally kill a Jaguar. I only need to kill the Jaguar, I've done the rest.

So I've found the Jaguar, it's not white as it says in the manual, it's black but it's a jaguar alright and I really want to kill it, and also it's the last thing I have to do on the island.

Here comes the problems in: The Jaguar is sitting smoothly in a tree near the top, and there doesn't seem to be any way for me to reach it. Either the lowest branches are placed too high for me to grap onto, or the trees with branches placed conveniently high are too far from the tree where the Jaguar is sitting far above.

I have only my two swords, I've nothing made for throwing and I can't throw the swords, so I have to get up close with the animal.

I've tried hanging from branches making myself look like easy prey, but the jaguar is apparently never hungry or it just doesn't fall for my trick.

So what now? It seems I'm at the end of my wits and I can't come up with anything new to try and get to the jaguar. Maybe there's some way that I just don't know of? A way that the player sort of has to stumble upon in order to find out. If that's the case and some - or one - of you have found this method, will you please tell me what it is and how you did it? - I assure you I'll be most gateful!

A question, in case there is no way to kill that jaguar at this time:

• Can I return to the island later?
  
• And if I can, will the Jaguar still be there for me to kill?

yeah just leave it for now and return with a gun, first island is generic spawn and just for training

Okay, thanks guys, lots of good tis there. - Yeah, I noticed I couldn't kill the monkeys, that was kind of easy to see so I didn't even try. - I actually did kill quite a few pigs, more than 15 anyway which it says in the 'log' that you have to kill - along with a jaguar - in order to get some prize for multiplayer or a cheat. I've no idea what that is about but I guess I'll find out. I intend to try everything there is to try, except if there's something I really don't find any fun with, then I'll leave that alone.

So far I really do like this game a lot, and I like the jumping and climbing mechanics too - which I didn't like in ACIII and the expansions. I felt they took the control from you and I disliked that. This time the mechanics are more balanced.

Oh, you get pistols later on, relatively early in the story. So I'd say get that far in the main storyline, come back to the isle, and shoot yourself a jaguar.
