AC 2 is a good starting point, but Brotherhood and Revelations are not since they are part of the AC 2 trilogy.
Black Flag is another great starting point, and you need next to no knowledge of the previous games to understand what's going on.
I have not played AC 3, Rogue, or Unity.
Otherwise you can play them out of order pretty much, except perhaps for AC2, Brotherhood and Revelations, since they make sense in order due to the aging and progressing main character. There are also a couple of movies available that continue the story a little (real and animated, you'll find them on YouTube).
There are some overlapping characters between Black Flag and Rogue, but they are certainly different stories. I would not leave the original Assassin's Creed game out though. It's not as refinded and you can't do as many things by far, but it's a good, solid game with great visuals, even if it's an older game now by today's standards. The Steam and GOG versions both work just fine.
AC3 and Rogue also connect in terms of locations you will get to visit, but I'm not that far into Rogue to say more and I'm replaying AC3 at present, to refresh my memory. Rogue is definitely much better optimized than Black Flag, but they're both worth it.
