AC4 crashes constantly [EDIT: Solved!]
I simply can't play the game. When I played it at first, I had no problem. Then, after like 20 hours of gameplay it started to crash once in a while. Now it crashes every 5 minutes. I'm playing, doing any activity, and then the screen freezes, the sound keeps playing, the game minimizes itself and I have to pull the task manager to close it. Anyone with the same issue?

Edit: Good news... After almost 2 months I've decided to open the game just to check if I was still bugged. Turns out that Uplay updated and I can now play normally. Yay! Guess they finally fixed it.

the only thing i did not try is to reinstall windows or buy new hardware. it does not seem to make a lot of sense since players with quite different systems have this problem, most of them better and newer than my own rig. different graphicscard, different rams, different OS, same problem. i am not going to spend 300 bucks on hardware trying to fix a problem for a game that cost 35 and not even knowing if that solves anything

Here is what I experienced: ticket with ubisoft is absolutely useless.
From day one that I bought AC4 it crashed on startup. I got it via steam, have a Geforce GTX670 and Win 8.1 - the graphics driver need to be up-to-date; in my case it's 335.23. what did the trick for me - believe it or not - was move AC4 files from x:\steam\steamapps\common\"AC4 directory" using this short explanation on how to make steam find the files in a c:\ - folder where steam itself is not installed on c:\ --> http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=664376 (note that you must start the command line using admin-rights-> to do so press winkey+x and chose from the menu that pops up) needless to say that some installation needs to be verfied using steam . in my case after moving and setting up the mklink steam said 8 files were corrupt and needed a reload so I did. afterwards game works like a charm. I'm willing to help others - since I tried anthing else in several attempts since November '13 I guess this here should work for all who never got AC4 to work at all.

Can u please start your own thread and in there put your hardware specs & OS.

what would that accomplish? i personally think this thread is quite revealing. all with different systems, OS', all with the same problem. if i opened a new thread do you think the solution would fly right in? even ubi-support stopped answering. they are aware of this and don't care. bottom line.

and don't get me wrong, i am grateful for all the people trying to help and maybe those solutions worked for some. it's good to have some kind of collection of possible solutions in one thread since ubi does not have anything like that apart from their stock "solutions" like "update your browser and it should be fine". opening another thread about thread would just be starting over with all those ideas and sadly none worked so far. it would go down like so many before this one.

all done except reinstalling punkbuster and that aero thing. i dont even play MP so i never thought about that. i don't see the connection why the game crashes because of PB when enagaging in sea battles. but why not. i reinstall that

well the game did not crash to desktop. bluescreen. is that better?

amd phenom II , geforce 460, 4 ram, win 7. drivers up to date. temperatures are fine and everything is deactivated or uninstalled if not neccessary

every 100 crashes or so it ends up in a bluescreen instead of a CTD. coincidence. i have no idea if i have faulty hardware. this flood of CTDs never occured to me neither the amount of randomness of these. the game can run perfectly fine for hours, or crash every 5 minutes for no apparent reason

U can view the full message from a BlueScreen (BSoD) type of error within the Windows Error Logs. It could be very helpful to know what those are. Might very well narrow down causes. Could be faulty hardware. Hopefully the logs can shed some light.

I have same proble. When i engaged larger battle and start smashing ships it just drop to desktop with music in the background. Unable to get back to the game. Sometimes it happens for no visible reason , when i am just trying to reach new place or fight fortress. Sometimes it ended like ac4bfsp.exe stopped working and sometimes i have to end the game with ctrl+alt+del.

Also i am unable to finish 5. Act cause everytime, when i destroyed two towers it drop to desktop with music in the background and i am unable to get to game. so ctrl+alt+del end..

What you believe are "stock" solutions could very well be legitimate steps to try. Why someone who clearly has no clue what they're talking about seems to think they are fit to comment on a game that runs stable for 90+% of the customers out there is beyond me.

Instead of being mad at Ubisoft for not being able to fix your PC issue, you should perhaps try approaching the issue with a little more humility and personal accountability instead of finger pointing.

cannot view the dmps themselves but the event is described as kernel power error. could be anything once more

and who are you? ubisofts white knight? what do you want a medal?

tell me how updating my browser might be linked to an AC crash when engaging large scale battles. i have no idea. ubi thought that would be a great solution after updating my drivers before i even contacted them did not do the trick. 3 different ubisoft employees talked to me repeating everything from start to finish and then just stopped replying at all as if everythig would be fine. am i supposed to be happy about that?

certainly i am not as arrogant as you are pretending to know everything better. i am completely out of ideas. so is ubisoft. i don't really care about those 90%, mines not working and after throwing hundreds of dollars in ubisofts bank accounts with all the AC games bought, all working fine i think i deserve a little more than a support that just stops replying
pyradius Mar 29, 2014 @ 11:12am
Nah, just someone who does support for a living who gets to deal with people who think they know what they're talking about try and be dismissive about problems and accountability. I can still tell by your reply that you have a sense of entitlement about you, so you failed to take my advice. Best of luck with your PC problem.
