From day one that I bought AC4 it crashed on startup. I got it via steam, have a Geforce GTX670 and Win 8.1 - the graphics driver need to be up-to-date; in my case it's 335.23. what did the trick for me - believe it or not - was move AC4 files from x:\steam\steamapps\common\"AC4 directory" using this short explanation on how to make steam find the files in a c:\ - folder where steam itself is not installed on c:\ --> http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=664376 (note that you must start the command line using admin-rights-> to do so press winkey+x and chose from the menu that pops up) needless to say that some installation needs to be verfied using steam . in my case after moving and setting up the mklink steam said 8 files were corrupt and needed a reload so I did. afterwards game works like a charm. I'm willing to help others - since I tried anthing else in several attempts since November '13 I guess this here should work for all who never got AC4 to work at all.
i have kind of given up already. why play on? the game is basically incompleteable for me. it's a really great game but thats it i guess
Can u please start your own thread and in there put your hardware specs & OS.
and don't get me wrong, i am grateful for all the people trying to help and maybe those solutions worked for some. it's good to have some kind of collection of possible solutions in one thread since ubi does not have anything like that apart from their stock "solutions" like "update your browser and it should be fine". opening another thread about thread would just be starting over with all those ideas and sadly none worked so far. it would go down like so many before this one.
every 100 crashes or so it ends up in a bluescreen instead of a CTD. coincidence. i have no idea if i have faulty hardware. this flood of CTDs never occured to me neither the amount of randomness of these. the game can run perfectly fine for hours, or crash every 5 minutes for no apparent reason
U can view the full message from a BlueScreen (BSoD) type of error within the Windows Error Logs. It could be very helpful to know what those are. Might very well narrow down causes. Could be faulty hardware. Hopefully the logs can shed some light.
Instead of being mad at Ubisoft for not being able to fix your PC issue, you should perhaps try approaching the issue with a little more humility and personal accountability instead of finger pointing.
tell me how updating my browser might be linked to an AC crash when engaging large scale battles. i have no idea. ubi thought that would be a great solution after updating my drivers before i even contacted them did not do the trick. 3 different ubisoft employees talked to me repeating everything from start to finish and then just stopped replying at all as if everythig would be fine. am i supposed to be happy about that?
certainly i am not as arrogant as you are pretending to know everything better. i am completely out of ideas. so is ubisoft. i don't really care about those 90%, mines not working and after throwing hundreds of dollars in ubisofts bank accounts with all the AC games bought, all working fine i think i deserve a little more than a support that just stops replying
