You need Uplay to play it.

Right now I wouldn't recommend buying since Uplay has been down for ages, so you can't redeem the game key on Uplay, meaning the game is unplayable at the moment. I bought AC IV on Wednesday and still can't play because of Ubisoft's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ service.

thanks for the answer

I have heard Uplay sucks indeed. there is no way I will buy anything that requires anything else than steam

Well it's up to you, but having to deal with Uplay is a small price to pay to play Blackflag!!!!!

I disagree with you, Considering the game cost 49 euro and for that price I think we have the right to demmand a better client than u play, and we shouldnt need to wait until ubisoft fix their client before playing the game. we are custommers and we have rights. However I fully understand your upinion. it`s a real shame that ubisoft are trying to force their crap on us.

noone forces gamers to buy and play this game...
they offer, you buy or u dont...

we have the right to demand a better client? we have the right to... well erm... what!?
there are no rights on whatsover for customers... especcialy not after agreeing to their terms of use.
as long as they at ubi dont overstretch the moneygrabbing for rubbish DLC in exchange i can live with this childish 3rd party client since i would only use it to play this particular game and nothing else.

EA for example with their Origin DRM have already overstretched the melking cash policy by far, so my personal response on that is not to buy anything from them anymore. thats maybe the one and only tool we have to fight their greed....

Rights? WTF why do people even go there.

U don't get to dictate anything, u are buying a product. If u don't like it in its current form, feel free to wait until it reaches a stage u approve of. You basically agree to any terms the product has (like client DRM) when u purchase something like a game. If u do not like the agreement terms, then I guess u won't be buying.

Nothing wrong with Uplay actually, but their Cloud Sync is useless is all.
Which I never ever liked for any game client, because how can I know what the contents of the save are, or when it is from, etc. And Uplay is fairly lightweight, and it's more stable than Origin. After buying a game directly from Ubisoft that uses Uplay, I must say, I will never do that again. As you can't download your game directly through Uplay like Steam/Origin. When u buy from Ubi/Uplay they email your receipt along with a small download manager in order to download your game. If you some how lose the email or the game download manager app, u can lose the ability to re-download your game in the future. And it wouldn't be hard to have Uplay itself have the game download/repair options built in, especially since your account info, activated products and such info is all in there. Anyways buying through Steam is much better, as you can use that for your game download/install/repair, as well as the DLC purchases, which Steam is much higher likely-hood of having on sale at some points, or more often compared to Uplay or Origin.

Funny since it doesn't do that for a Uplay game through Steam, but then I guess that is coming from an actual Steam server though. But yea I had the same issue when I was on 50mbps ISP back when I purchased FarCry3 through Ubisoft and had to use the their download manager to get the files.

I have AC3 and AC4 on Steam and I downloaded the entire games in a matter of a few minutes.

I don't really see why there's so much hate for Uplay. It adds an extremely minor step when launching a game from Steam and it happens so fast you barely even notice it. I have about 4 or 5 Ubisoft games through Steam and I play all of them with no problems. Uplay also lets you use Uplay achievment points to open minor content in different games. I find this process to be an extremely cool use of gamer achievements. It also gives you some content for owning other games. Since I owm all of th AC series I'm able to access the different outfits from the other games in Black Flag. And I've used Uplay points to unlock some slightly better swords early in the game. Sure, most of this stuff isn't game changing but it's not game breaking either and quite frankly I think it's cool for Ubisoft to give a little something to loyal customer/fans when no one else gives anything for free. Like I said: Uplay is such a minor thing that there's absolutely no inconvenience factor involved and to deny yourself a great game like AC4: Black Flag because of it is silly. Especially since you "heard Uplay sucks" instead of taken a chance to check it out yourself.
