Picture freezes and thats it
Does anyone got the same problem? At totally random points the picture freezes but the background sounds still working. I can get out via TaskManager but nothing more. If I wouldn't know any better I would say it's a lag from hell...

Welcome to hell. I got the same issue, I did everything that is possible on my PC, the problem definitely is something in the game. Good luck trying to convince Ubisoft support that the problem is on their end so they could at least try to solve it. They will blame your PC doesn't matter what.

Anyway, see if it follow the same pattern as mine. It freeze always when I was on foot, it never freeze while I was in the ship (at least I was able to enjoy naval combat without issues). Trying to take a fort was a nightmare, since it freeze a LOT more frequently when I'm in a fort, so I would restart my PC several times while doing it. I had to restart my PC every time it happened, because the game wouldn't open otherwise (AC stopped working).

My rig is new too (GTX 760, 8gb ram, intel I5). I already played and still playing a lot of other games on this PC, I don't have issues with any of them. AC4 multiplayer doesn't have any issues as well.

Yeah same here, I find it for myself its always within the first 10min of game time. When it freezes the audio still works but the picture is frozen & only way out is via task manager which shows that it has stopped working. Atleast so far I've been lucky as it only does this one time only while my pc is on, that is it wont freeze again till I turn my pc off and play it again....
So for now I've just grown to accept it, hoping they patch it.

Yeah, it's always on foot. Sometimes in forts but sometimes just walking around in a city. I though it might have been too high temprature or too less power but after having it checked out by a professional, it's not the problem.
Maybe it is really a bug?!
Never the less, very disurbing.

Try to have Uplay and AC4 installed on the same drive, preferably on C:\ with Windows. I had AC4 installed on my D-drive and it crashed frequently. So I deleted it and reinstalled it on C:\ (and have yet to have a crash). Could even play for 5 hours straight today. I let you know if this solution works in a couple of days (since I did the reinstall this morning). To soon to say at this point, but it looks promising.

Oh, also; Always backup your saves manually after each session. Uplay likes to eat them.
Just a friendy tip from a seasoned gamer.

Well, pretty obvious the last update ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up, but, the word on the Ubisoft forum is that turning Volumetric Fog ON, fixes the freeze, though artifacts may occur at screen edges. So a temporary fix until they will try testing what future updates they release.

What happens for me is whenever there's a storm and a fort, my picture freezes but I can still do things. Like for example, I can looks at my minimap and I can see the ship moving but my picture is frozen. The game continues to happen, so I'm always getting shot at and I don't know where from because I'm stuck. The only way for me to reverse this is going into mortar aiming view or doing brace. For that time being the picture comes back but as soon as I'm at the helm of the ship in freezes again. I don't know why this happens and it makes taking forts impossible and not enjoyable.

I'm having the exact same problem, I can not capture any of the forts. It's really detracting from the game, freezes every single time. I use the mini map to orient myself and lead my ship out of the restricted area and when I do the game is fine. I've had no other graphical problems.

disable your anti aliasing, it seems to be an insta fix
nate.cook Jul 23, 2014 @ 1:57pm
Changed several graphics settings and never had this problem again.

its been happening to me when i get near a fort but when i turned of anit alliasing its stoped can i turn it back on and it wont be buggy?

I know this is an old topic, but this issue is still happening and I had this issue too. This is from the Ubi Forums: Turn on Volumetric Fog in Options, then Graphics menu. If you have a crap gpu, it will lag you a bit, but it does fix the issue.
