To Hell With Uplay
Just got locked out of my account because I changed my password earlier today. Then it didn't recognize my new password logging in, so it locked me out since it never "changed".

You know with proof I bought it ON STEAM, you'd think things like Uplay WOULD BE REDUNDANT.

Sigh...another of these treads...

Ubisoft own the game. Steam sells the game. They must abide by the publisher's excentricities.

If your password never changed, then shouldn't your old one work?

Have you tried contacting ubisoft? Or logging in through the website and choosing forgot password? You should be able to reset it.

Both of these things will do far more good that moaning about uplay.

You know sometimes people need to vent. I didn't actually expect a solution posting this, and if it's "another one of these threads", um, so beat it. I didn't force you to read this, at most it takes up a single string.

There's nothing wrong with me disagreeing how something works, or being upset with it because it prevents me from playing a game I paid money for, or whatnot. And no, because my account was locked for an amount of time, which in my world there's isn't much of, so you'll have to try and understand my frustration.

Actually, OP owns the game.

They're not selling a license to you so you're "allowed" to play the game.
As blizzard for example did with Diablo 3. (which isnt allowed by law in certain countries so it wouldnt really hold up in most of the EU)

My uplay wn't even start, much less let me play the game. Quite fed up by it.

I was going to buy this game which has been recommended as a 'pacifier' for my Sid Meir's Pirates addiction in that forum - but it sounds like ubisoft is still unwilling or unable to fix the problems discussed here and in the game reviews posted in the Steam store. Too bad - the trailers looked awesome but life is already too full of frustrations.

Yeah get it on consoles if you can. It's worth playing but Ubisoft's PC DRM is crap.
comradeoblivious Oct 1, 2015 @ 2:41pm
I just finished downloading the game, it wont start thanks to uplay so I 100% get this. Same issue with silent hunter 5, need to do a rediculous amount of error checking to satisfy uplay.

If uplay didn't exist ubisoft would still get their money, the game would run just the same and the customers would be happy. Doesn't seem like a bad career move to me.

I'll download a cracked version of this game elsewhere, then there's a chance I might actually be able to play it. Not spending another dime on this company. >:(

I stopped buying games on Steam that require Uplay. I only buy the Uplay versions. Less DRM to deal with.

Never understood why people have problems with Uplay. I own most Ubisoft games, typed in Uplay password into my system 5 years ago and all games I installed since then it never asks for password it logs in automatically. Have both Uplay games, and Steam/Uplay games. If you have a problem with passwords stay away from Origin, it will ask you for your password EVERY TIME it downloads a new update.

For personal I also have Amazon, psn, xbox live, gamefly, netflix, ebay, Windows Live, GFWL, Origin, Uplay, and Steam among others gaming across 5 platforms.

For work I keep track of 100+ email accounts and passwords, 65+ surveillance passwords, 59+ router passwords, 140+ register passwords, 50 ATM passwords, along with all passwords involved with 3 different office network systems along with all workstations on those networks.

Don't understand why someone can't keep track of one account name and password.

Uplay support is also better.

Do you keep all those accounts and passwords in your head or...?

Also sometimes it's a matter of pressing the wrong keys, sometimes it's a matter of just like you 5 years ago I typed it in once and never had to again, and then suddenly for whatever reason I need to do that again and my memory doesn't remember some password from 5+ years ago that one time I had to use Uplay when I was younger and probably thought up some stupid password that I'd never guess today.

I mean sure, it's impressive you've got such a long list of things to keep track of, but I figure that those things are more important than, say, Uplay. Which some of us use once in a blue moon.

And the thing is not everyone is apparently as good as you at remembering oodles of account information. Some people forget, but really the issue is here is they're making you log on to a third-party software in a vain attempt to insure you bought the game legitimately, even though you've already gone through Steam and even though even if it wasn't legitimate, they couldn't stop you. Punishing the legit users in the process with this unnecessary, buggy garbage.

For me personally it's mostly a question of necessity. Uplay isn't a necessity, it's only there for the sake of Ubisoft, we players don't have any need to log in through several game gates in order to be able to play.

I have a lot of Ubisoft's games too, not because of Uplay but because Ubisoft's games usually are great - at least the first few releases in a series before they become sloppy with not only maintenance but with releasing a game that has been well tested and finished prior to release.
And yeah, I don't have to enter my password because I have my settings so that I can login automatically (which isn't the safest way to do things), but it's no different from how Steam works. You don't have to enter your password there either if you choose to make login automatic.

All my Uplay games used to be on Steam as well, it wasn't until I bought a new computer that I noticed one of the Ubisoft games had disappeared from the list. It means, however, that I have to put the disk into the slot every time I want to play.

Thanks for the tip. Luckily I don't have any games that require Origin to be played, I hope I won't fall in love with one that does.

I have Windows Live and a game that requires me to log into it, but I can't log in, I keep getting two messages, one that says Windows Live has been discontinued and one that doesn't recognize my password. I take it I don't have to say I've tried to reset the password, but I can't get to a page where I can initiate the process. For this reason I'm unable to play two of the games I'd like to play more than anything, GTA-IV (which I bought and then found out about what I've just described) and GTA-V which I haven't bought because I now know I'll never be able to play it (unless it can be played on PS4 and I'll be able to afford this console sometime(1*).

What I'll say now may not be entirely fair, but I am of the impression that people who work with IT have access to a LOT more resources to get almost any problem solved, and that almost immediately. I have yet to read a post from someone asking for help or describing a problem he can't solve who is working in a workplace like yours.

I agree, in principle. However, I have had problems with one account because my password suddenly wasn't being accepted. Since then every new password I create is being turned down and I have to reset my password every time I have to login which is daily. There are even times where I leave my computer turned on so I won't have to go through this problem again if I know I'll be very busy the following day.

----------------------------------
(1*) - I already have Xbox1, but the first game I tried to play on it got stuck, and nobody have been able to get it out as of yet (and yes, I know the method with the orange split and a safety pin or something like it).

I know that situation. But it's only natural and can't really be called a problem with passwords. You simply reset it.

You know what? If I had to log into Uplay today I probably wouldn't be able to. That's a normal result of not having to use something that is just a line of digits, numbers, letters and signs.

He has a system to help him keep track of it all, otherwise it would be impossible - unless he's a Savant.

Good points, pal. Unnecessary is exactly the word I would use. And of course people's memory efficiency vary.

Have fun getting checked by Uplay, guys, as well as having to access your paid for games via them. ;)
