AC4BFSP.exe has stopped working.....solved? (Win 10 AMD GPU)
After upgrading to windows 10, AC4 had completely stopped working for me. After searching many forums for a while, reinstalling the game, verifying the contents, installing the directx.exe it came with, running in compatability mode and as an administrator, nothing seemed to work to fix the game and prevent it from crashing at start up with the "AC4BFSP.exe has stopped working" error.

Possible solution? on a whim I disabled the steam overlay. You can do that by right clicking the game in your library, going to properties, and searching for the appropriate option.

Since doing that for the first time since upgrading to Win10 the game runs past the start screen and actually loads up.

If anyone else is having the same error issue disabling the steam overlay might work, il play for a while and come back with an update if it works consistently or not. Any suggestions or fixes you know would help :)

Hey guys, my issue was that it would start up fine but while I was playing, ac4bfsp.exe would crash. Did some digging around and it seems to crash whenever the game saves. Final option for me was to just unplug my internet and then SURPRISE, no more crashes. So just play the single player offline and you wont have the crashing issue. That does not meen to be set to offline with steam and Uplay, no I actually had to unplug my internet. - Win 10 pro -

What worked for me was going into the game folder and deleting all of the folders marked dlc_"x" (x = numbers 1-9)

I found a solution with the help of LosT

I tried his method, and also turned off my WiFi, and went into offline mode in U Play !!!!
I left my AV and Firewall on

Normally After playing 13- 20 mins it would crash, but with this method I was able to keep playing for more than an hour **NO CRASH**

I also unticked
cloud save synchro,
ingame overlay,
Download updates,
Notifications, and
Voice Chat

Dell Inspiron 5500 series

Hope This helps some people!!! :steamhappy:
I also did other little things like delete temp files, and turned off some background applications .

I am running Win 10 with an Nvidia GPU and was getting an AC4BFSP.exe has stopped working error as soon as I launched the game.

I tried disabling the overlay in both steam and Uplay, lowering the resolution on my desktop and in the ini file, verifying the game files in Steam, reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 and 2012, installing Direct X from the Black Flag folder, making sure all my drivers were up to date.. nothing worked.

Moving the Black Flag folder to another hard drive and re pointing Steam to the new location fixed my issues. I have almost 1TB of Steam games on the drive I had to move it off of and this is the only time I have ever had a game fail to launch. I saw someone on another board mention an Ubisoft rep had suggested they try moving it to another drive and it worked for them, turns out it worked for me too. So if you run out of things to try its worth a shot.
