I did the same for my really ol' Assassin's Creed: BrotherHood CD-DVD and it worked like a charm.
The UbiSoft's support tends to be a bit annoying because they're pretty much formatted to follow a certain standard's pattern when handling customers, but it's a tad too much strict or I'll be putting it in a layman's slang term to be better undertstood... many times they all seem to have an umbrella stuck up in their a**e.
As far as the UbiSoft Connect I've got no issues with it even before it was named this way (I'm from the time it was called UPlay) but provided that I've configured it's properties to always open upon my Game's Library and a few other things I haven't had the slightest hassle with it afterwards.
Now, I only get advertisements from'em if I go strolling into the "News" pages.
