Yes, that was the right one. You may have noticed there was older versions in those files, It is possible the latest DirectX can be backwards compatible, but you can't bank on it. The app / game may require the exact version to be installed. They do not require much space and no problem having multiple versions installed.
This article explains it very well.

From which location, Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist or steam apps/common/Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag/support/software ?

I installed this game years ago, 4.5.1 was in the _CommonRedist within the main game folder at the time. I only noticed the second location (support/software folder) while helping someone with the non-steam version of the game. I see this one only list it as "microsoftnet framework 4", but I would assume it's the required version for the game. If you search for an outside source to DL from, I would recommend Microsofts web site for a safe place.

Same as the DirectX versions, it is recommended to have the exact one installed, and no problems having more than one version on your system. If you try to install and receive a message of a newer version already exist, I would recommend to install it anyways. It could make a difference.

As far as performance goes, experiment with the graphics settings or search for any recommended from other players.

Some may say to use FXAA, others say it can cause freezing.

Some may say to turn PhysX off. AIRC this may have a side effect when using "heavy shot" on the ships cannons. It's like a QTE of the cannon fire that shows a rapid double fire, you will hear the double fire but only see one- you'll understand better when you get there, "heavy shot" is an upgrade you earn along the way.

Keep in mind the game engine is capped at 60fps. Some may say to set that cap at the GPU instead of inside game menu. I would say some of the options are not supported as well as they were with newer hardware and drivers.

For some reason I had book marked these threads, I think it was someone asking for perfomance help without giving any PC specs. Don't know what you will find for your GPU, it might be all for the green team.

One more helpful tip: Cloud save is not an option for this game, and some have had a problem with lost or corrupted saves. You should expect 60+ hours for your first play through to 100% completion. It would be very wise to make a backup save now and then in case that happens and you start throwing things.

Game save should be located in c drive, program files X86 / ubisoft game launcher / game saves. You will find folders listed by numbers for each Ubi game you have, folder # “437” is for the steam version of this title. Folder # “273” for the Uplay version.

If not there, try
